Yes and it would not be much use even if it could be made in that, as
non-pally shields are *badly* inferior to any paladin. For example, my
Smiter is right now using a 4-socketed non-eth Zakarum shield which,
imagining that there were nothing in those sockets, has only 13 points
lower def than that monarch (even though my shield is not ethearal!),
the same block %, MUCH higher Smite damage (like all pally shields)
and +44 to all resistances. There's no contest at all.

Not just that, an ethearal Spirit monarch would also be the *best*
shield for an Act III mercenary. Not just because of the defense, in
fact not really at all because of the defense, but because the
ethearalness takes away 10 from the strength requirement, so a
high-level mercenary can actually equip one without any strength
boosting gear (and non-high-level ones can equip it much easier if its
eth, as most of the huge-str-bonus items are not likely gear on these
mercs otherwise). Act II mercs don't block, so the low block % doesn't
matter and the Spirit has by far the best bonuses for a caster merc
shield (+2 skills, nice if not the best resists, FCR, huge FHR - and
that's very important, since Act III mercenaries have atrociously slow
hit recovery).
I'd hold on to one, just in case I'd ever decide to go with a cold
merc on any character. It's really *the best* shield for them.

You mean already-socketed armour?
I'm sort of scared after finding an eth sacred targe (+37 all res)
*without* any sockets, now - I might just be stupid enough to try the
cube recipe on it... (I'd already have the runes for Exile, if I cubed
up most of what I have.)

(No, he means non-bugged armour. I think I'm sleep deprived.)

I think it was Jaakko Raipala <raipala@pcu.helsinki.fi> that wrote

Well, actually you were right both times really. Armour that drops
with sockets already *is* non-bugged armour. I could have phrased
myself better initially.
