My first Mara's...

Samiel - 28 Sep 2005 16:10 GMT Well, Hell Mephisto decided to drop me a unique Amulet... I was hoping it would be a Mara's... and it was! A 28 res. one in fact!
I looked closely at it since I've never found one before...
+2 All Skills +5 All Attributes +28 All Resistances
I thought this thing was supposed to be godly? I've gambled better amulets!
+2 All Skills... okay, that's nice that I can switch it between characters, but I can usually find a nice +2 All Skills to a character without too much hassle. Eldritch, Shenk, and Pindle drop them all the time.
+5 All Attributes... well, that's like 4 levels, all of which can be had by charms, runes, or gems... not too useful IMHO...
+28 All Reistances... this is nice if you don't already have resists from other sources. However, you can socket your Helm, Armor, or Shield and get similar resistances. Of course, having it on an amulet opens up more options for your other equipment.
All in all I'd say it's a decent amulet, but nowhere near godly. I'm sure it's a good amulet to pass between growing characters, but I don't see it as an endgame amulet for any of my merchants. I think it's overvalued myself.
For my Sorc, I'd rather have something like...
+2 Sorc Skills +11 All Reistances 20% FCR +Life +Mana
I don't even know that I'd call it the best unique amulet. Atma's or Highlord's can be much more useful at times...
Anyhow...
I immediately sold it for a Vex + Pul... and the Vex for 2 Ists... so I got 2 Ist + Pul for it all said... probably could have got more, but I like to make quick sales... heh.
My first Mara's... how disappointing...
Later, Hell Mephisto dropped me some +38% MF War Travelers... I was much more excited! :-p

If I had one, I would promptly trade for 2 BK or SOJ rings, ditch the rings I have now with MF on them and be maxed out.

I guess it all depends on your needs. My Barb had some Ghost drop a Highlord's Wrath on his way to Hell BugBoy. With that, LoH and a Lightsabre, he's so fast he's practically a blur on my screen. Since his resists are maxed anyway, except for 64 in Poison, he likes the Highlord's Deadly Strike and IAS, and he uses an Echoing ammy to cast BO, I don't think he'd switch to a Mara's even if he found one.
Mara's is an item that some dedicated MF-ers can go forever and never find, so congratulations. :-)

I studied Latin at school for a wee while.

[quoted text clipped - 4 lines] > +5 All Attributes > +28 All Resistances You posted this 12 hours ago and about 12-13 hours ago, I also got my first Mara's for this ladder season (have gotten them in the past) but it dropped from the Summoner. Interesting coincidence.
For me, this was a pretty good drop though since my sorceress has a pretty lame amulet and I haven't really had the scratch to gamble or have forgotten to do so on those characters with the sheckels to spend.

Now what is it about tal's armours and mara's amulets recently? Seems they're falling like rain, or at least as close as such rare items can get to falling like rain.

The drop was great since I've never had a Mara's drop before... I guess my expectations were too high though!

No, no. For it to be truly horrifying, it has to be something we don't see you in everyday.
