I think it was deathsabyss@yahoo.com.au (Ashen Shugar) that wrote

And the show ended at the docks in act 3.

From the sessions so far, it's already becoming clear that some individuals
need to be given the proverbial boot up the rear (not you, Ash) in regards
sticking with the rest of the group in the game. So to them - STAY WITH THE
OTHER PLAYERS, unless it's been specifically stated that we're splitting up
(one acceptable case for splitting up here is the Arcane Sanctuary or Maggot
Lair)
If you're off on your own and you find the way to the next area first, or
you're a higher level than everyone else because you're off on your own all
the time, this doesn't make you a better player but simply a bad TEAM player
for not sticking with the group. Remember, the other players in the game
aren't just convenient experience boosters, they're your team mates. This
isn't public battle.net, and this isn't a race.
From past experience of team gaes, if people don't stick together and play as
a team, the team concept will disintegrate pretty quickly and we'll start to
lose players. Quite frankly, a couple of us are already losing interest in
the team, for this very reason.

I've played in quite a few team games, and this is spot on. The whole
purpose of these things is to play as a team, so stick together. Some
recommendations from my experience:
* If you're out front and getting away from the other players, stop and wait
for them to catch up. If you're trailing behind the peleton, quit fooling
around and get caught up to the group ASAP. Fast or slow players need to
modify their play styles to match the majority.
* Everyone goes to town together to repair, sell, shop, etc. No one should
remain in the field killing while a town stop is in progress. But don't
dally in town, do what you have to do and get back as promptly as possible.
* When entering a new area or leaving town after a stop, wait till everyone
is present before starting out. If you start out together, it's easier to
stay together.
* You can appoint a pointman to lead the group for the evening. Or what I
prefer is to have a standard procedure. For example, when entering a new
area always turn left and work the area clockwise (or turn right and work it
counterclockwise). This way everyone knows what to expect and you don't have
to guess what to do. And the party won't fragment when one group goes one
way and another goes in the opposite direction.
Playing a team game is a little different from your normal D2 experience,
but it is well worth the effort.

Absolutely. And the thing is, we all sometimes take a wrong turn and find
ourselves alone from time to time. That's a natural part of the game, and
the fact that we're not all joined at the hip. And it's not a problem,
because by and large, most make the effort to join back up with the pack at
the first opportunity. It's only when certain players start consistently
playing lone wolf that a problem starts to develop. Playing as a team IS
supposed to be fun, and if it isn't, and people are going off on their own
because of this, or having other people go off on their own isn't fun for
someone else, then we need to do what we can to fix that. If the team isn't
fun, then it's just a waste of everybody's time. We could designate a leader
that everyone else follows, but I don't think that's entirely necessary, as
most of the players seem to stick together even without one.

It's even less fun for people like me, and you to a certain extent Hammy,
whose builds are fairly underpowered right now. We need those of you playing
more powerful builds at this point in order to actually be able to get
through. And remember, SCORCHED EARTH. We're supposed to be killing
everything.
