I think this is how it works - random number of SOJs will make the
event occur.  I was in East Realm playing earlier and the SOJ number
was at something like 180 and then after I quit for thirty minutes or
so and came back it was at 20 again.  Now it is at 117 and still no
event.  I think after it picks the random number it spawns in all the
games that are active and the count resets.  So you just have to be in
a hell game when this random event occurs - and then you have to find
him.  Can replace any super unique apparently, as I have seen claims
that people found their charms from a Diablo that replaced Mephy, and
one in place of Eldritch.

We're only on day two and the clone has already made numerous appearances.
Is anyone keeping an eye on the SOJ stock?

We got ours at 78 SoJs sold, FWIW.

And so it is written, that Shiflet  coming to a smoldering
shrub, spake these words:

I just got out of a ladder game, watched the count go from 417 to 430 in
about 20 minutes

it was way in the 600's in a ladder game last night, we were only in
normal - nothing happened.

Surely people aren't selling dozens of SOJs to get one Annihilus? I
mean I know it's good, but isn't the "x SOJs sold to merchants" just a
colourful way of incrementing a random counter? Has anyone here
actually sold one and seen the counter go up?

Presumably it must count right across the realms, since nobody can
have found 180 SOJs in one day on the ladder. So maybe people are
selling off their surviving dupes?

Curious,

CC

I expect you're right and that the text is simply there to encourage people
to sell sojs.
