Nothing against Trekkies personally but watch them like a hawk. Bear in mind
this article is based on a Police force in Canada

http://www.latimes.com/news/custom/showcase/la-fg-photo27apr27.story  - read
a bit and see what they say about trekkies.

What's with the double -- below?

There is always something in common that the cops or other groups in
authority latch onto as a querk of each personality type they are trying to
identify. It's not telling that they are also trekkies but the fact that
they realize that "It has something to do with a fantasy world where mutants
and monsters have power and where the usual rules don't apply,". More often
then not people involved in these types of crimes think that any and all
rules of society do not apply to them or should not apply to them.

For years there was a furor over DnD. Hell even Chick publications has a
tract devoted to the evils of roleplaying games. The problem is not everyone
who engages in fantasy roleplaying of whatever sort is also a diabolical
criminal who thinks s/he is a legend in their own minds and above the laws.

It's the same with pornography. Your average joe might read them and w.nk
off to them but does he run out and rape/kill someone the second he is
exposed to it? No. It's about impulse control and recognition of what is
acceptable behavour in whichever society they grew up in.

There is a whole hell of a lot more wrong with pedophiles and rapists than
watching star trek can account for. Being able to understand the difference
between fantasy and reality is just touching the tip of the proverbial
iceberg.

Excellent reply. It's all about predisposition. Perhaps being a "Trekkie" is
a symptom, it's certainly not the cause.

I still think they should all be locked in rubber rooms though. ;-)
