Merry Christmas to everyone out there in the ether. I'm envying you all
because I'm guessing most of you get the day off (I'll be working).

So, what will everyone be doing and what gifts are you hoping for?

I'm sorry.  I really am, because I know what it's like to have to work on
Christmas Day while everybody else is running around having fun.  3+ years at a
movie theatre taught me that.

>So, what will everyone be doing and what gifts are you hoping for?

I will be getting The Return of the King extended dvd edition, and then spending
11-12+ hours of one day watching the entire trilogy.  Pass the popcorn, lightly
salted, no butter flavoring, the large, refilable soda, and the kosher 100% beef
hotdogs.   Mmmm... good stuff.

What do you mean by "I win"?

I had enough buttered popcorn while I worked at the movie theater near my house,
I started not liking it.

I don't like popcorn and I don't like movie theaters. At least not the
people in them. Not specifically talking about you.

Tito and I are planning on doing this as well but not until New Year's

Same to you.

> I'm envying you all because I'm guessing most of you get the day off (I'll

Yep, Christmas Day is the one day of the year my work is closed all day(but
I actually get Christmas Eve off too, YAY!)

> So, what will everyone be doing

Christmas Eve I'll be opening gifts with my dad and stepmom here, my sister
and her husband and baby will be here to do their stuff with us too.
Christmas Day both my sister(and family) and me will be joining our mom at
her parents house to do our gifts and stuff with the grandparents, and have
some dinner there. Then we'll come back down here, where my dad's parents
will be coming down with their gifts to have the rest of our Christmas
dinner(we love my mom's parents, but both me and my sis agree that our dad
and his parents are the better cooks in the family, so we'll eat a little at
their house so they don't feel left out, but save the majority of the meal
for here;-)

> and what gifts are you hoping for?

Since I'm nearly impossible to shop for, I just want money(and a CD tower. I
only like 1 style and they are VERY hard to come buy locally, nor can I find
them online. Only place that still carries them is a store in ONE local
mall, and I HATE the mall. And if I don't get one, I'll have to go to the
mall and get one myself, so I'd rather get one as a gift and save the trip).
For starters I'm a bargain hunter, and often get stuff I want online from
Ebay or Half.com or pawn shops(local pawn shop sells PS2/Xbox games for $12,
CDs for $3, DVDs for $4, and have a very nice selection) at much less than
it would cost in stores. I just can't justify asking for a movie, CD, or
video game cause I know they'd run out to Best Buy or some place similar and
buy it new, and I wouldn't feel right having them buy something new at $15
or more, when I can get it used for $8-10 or less. Plus, I tend to be
impatient, when something comes out I want, I want it NOW-every Tuesday I go
to the local movie/CD stores, and if a new release came out I want, I get it
then, and usually watch or listen to it by the end of the night. So money
benefits me more than most "real" gifts.

Sorry to hear you're working Shari. Oh well, after all is said and done,
it's just another day.

> So, what will everyone be doing and what gifts are you hoping for?

I will be saying goodbye to shady in the morning as she departs to spend the
next few days with her family while I stay home alone playing D2. Gifts? We
don't have money for gifts. We have each other, (At least we will have when
she gets home).

I hope you have a great New Year break.

Merry Christmas to you too.

I'm envying you all

My mother has to work Christmas Eve, Day, as well as new years day (and
possible eve). In 1999, she had to spend NYE at work monitoring the
clocks (You can probably guess why)

> So, what will everyone be doing

Tonight and possibly tomorrow, my sis and I are going to be cooking a
christmas dinner for our parents; tonight we're having butterball
chicken (i think that's what it's called when you butter it up with
pepper and thyme), tomorrow we're having lamb and fish. Both meals will
be accompanied by fixings. Since our extended family is in TO
(Toronto), we will be having a small dinner, just the four of us, and
then going to TO on Boxin Day to visit em.

and what gifts are you hoping for?

As for gifts, as corny as it sounds, I've come to the realization that
our family has been blessed with a good life and plenty of gifts in the
past. Christmas for us is no longer about buying and giving presents,
tho some presents are given. For our family it's more about spending
time together since we don't do that often.

I really miss having the capacity to have those types of dinners. In
Japan, the ovens are small and the chickens smaller...sort of like
pigeons. Of course the concept of Christmas is not really very "homey"
here or family-oriented.

It's heartening to see this sentiment expressed among people here,
particularly when you hear much more about the commercialism and
Christmas in the media.

I hope you have a lovely time with your family. :-)

Smaller chickens?  I had no idea Oriental Chickens were size-challenged.

Yup, when I was little it was always about the food and presents.  Now its
about the food and family.

Unfortunately, since it's still about the food, every Christmas keeps
making me noticeably less and less little. :-/

BTW I don't understand this media ranting that goes on about
"commercialism" every year. Does anyone actually know anyone who buys
expensive presents for *adults*? Are these complainers actually
suggesting that we should stop buying presents for kids? :-) (Well,
maybe the fundamentalists are. I just got a nice reminder of why I
ignore the people yapping about the "true meaning" of Christmas when
the first thing I ran into after returning from the countryside to
some internetting was a message like "Christmas quake in Asia - God
has punished the heathen terrorists! Hallelujah!" :-( )

I'll be enjoying watching my three grandkids enjoy their Christmas, I

The Swedish contingent celebrates Christmas on December 24th. Lucky for you
your message is dated December 24th in my newsreader. <loosens his belt> If
I had known you'd be working I hadn't saved a seat for you at the dinner

I spent Christmas eve+day with my parents, my sister and her husband. We
don't spend much money on gifts anymore but I got some kitchen appliances,
clothes and home baked cookies (from my sister). I don't look like a bum
anymore.

I spent Christmas in the hospital with my wife while everyone else was

Don't really care about gifts, but I would like my wife to get better.

Ignoring the obvious comment here, I hope it's nothing serious and that she
gets better very soon. Especially in the US where being sick is expensive.

Move to Canada! We get blamed for everything too!
