So, bowazon Alix and her might merc finally got tired of running the NM
Countess and are in Hell now. (amazing how much of nothing NM Baal and
Hell Blood Raven dropped).

Along the way somewhere, from nobody in particular, I think from a chest
or something, a Crown of Thieves dropped, which sucks slightly less than
any other helm she's found (understating just in case someone up and
says it's worthless crap, anyway :)

This far both her and her merc were wearing Lore'd helms. I'm not sure
which of them would be better off wearing it, tho. The + to mana and
gold find are likely a waste on the merc, OTOH he needs the added
defense and life leech more than Alix. More fire resist is useful to
both, but losing the 30% LR from Lore also hurts both. And of course am
loathe to give up the +1 to skills. Mostly because of the latter I gave
it to the merc, for now. It seems he stays alive a little longer when
wearing it, but is still dying too often.

CoT is a decent hat for an A2 merc--the more life leech (and weapon speed)
the better.  See if you can find him Duriel's Shell to go along with that
hat.  It should really help his survivability.

If you need to email, then chainbreaker (naturally) at comcast dot

keep on trying.. I've just maximized my Enchantress for NM Baal runs -
she already  got 2x Duriel's from him, Demon Limb and a VEX rune on WSK2.

My might merc is currently trying out an upgraded Hawkmail (cannot be
frozen) and a Hone Sundan with 2xAMN for life leech. Vampire Gaze helm
gives some more life leech and 10% damage reduction..

Another good set would possibly be a Darksight Helm (cannot be frozen)
and Shaftstop.

Oliver

Hm. Have found and stashed away 2 Hawkmails this far. Cold resist didn't
seem like his worst problem tho. And the defense was so low so wasn't
tempted to try upgrading. Also have a Rockfleece, but the Hwanin's he
currently has is probably better. And the Iceblink that she already had
in D2. That worked pretty well for the merc before the Hwanin's.

That's about all of it in the way of armors, really. For a weapon, the
merc has been using the Battlebranch, which got upped along the way, but
hasn't been socketed since Alix spent all her socket quests (and then
some) on her bows.

Might just have a Darksight. Yes, found one, thought it looked kinda
interesting, wondered what to do with it...

But surely CoT is better for a merc, for the defense and LL? And what
effect would -4 to light radius have, on a merc?

No exceptional unique armors though. No Lum for Smoke, either.
Maybe I need to get to that (in)famous Pit, in A1, for some results.
Now if she'll only survive that far...

it depends. I've always been a big fan of the CBF mod. But if your merc
doesn't get frozen too often, you could use any other armor.

My ThrowBarb has been using DarkSight for a long, long time. Cloak of
Shadows was a real nice crowd control tool - but you gotta pick up some
gold on the way to pay for the charges.
I only dropped DarkSight when I could afford a Delirium helmet - in SP, I
just mule them from merc to merc when I play other chars.

When freezing is no problem, the life leech from CoT surely is good.

You will be surprised how nicely chance to cast Dim Vision when struck works
on a merc.
