Pardon my newbieness.

I've played D2 and LOD for years in single mode. I did, for a brief
little bit, play online, when i first bought D2, before LOD, however,
that was back when i had a dialup connection and the LAG was just
terrible.

This weekend I got bored with single play and decided to try my luck
online again, now that we have a cable modem.

However. I keep getting this error message, "CD Key not activated for
this purpose" or something like that. Tells me to re-install.

I did that three or four times but it still wont work. I have two
different CD Keys; my first copy of LOD, the one i originally used to
play online with, cracked and broke, but i kept the CD Key. I tried to
install and use both CD Keys but altho the game runs fine in single,
neither CDKey will connect online.

Was anyone else experiencing any kind of difficulty to conect to
Battle.net over the  weekend?

It could be a problem with the cable modem and the "firewall" they say
is built in. However, I was able to connect and play online with D1.
But not D2.

any suggestions?

Sounds like you are only installing the single player version.  Stick in the
CD and there should be something like "upgrade your installation" or
something to that effect.

including the cinematics, each time.

May not help, but try it with just the multiplayer installation. Or,
try installing it in a different directory.

did that several times.

the actual error message is

"This CD KEy is not authorized for use on Battle.Net"

but i'm the only perosn who has ever used this CD Key. I dont actually
know if i ever played LOD online or not, i cant remember. But I havent
given the key number to anyone.

what would cause that message?

Did you buy the software in the full retail package? If not, then
it may be single-player only (demo software, etc). If it is the
full retail package and you BOUGHT it, then check with Blizzard.
