Barb building

I have just started a Barb (LoD, 1.10, ladder, SC). I have looked around for
different builds. Unfortunately most, I guess, are for 1.09. Any place to
find 1.10 barb builds?

I thought about going for an IK barb, but aren't the chances very low that I
will complete the set? Chances finding IK maul? Is is risky to max
macemastery? (Mauls are quite slow, and isn't it easier to find a good sword
than a maul)
What barbskills work best with a maul?

I also thought about doing the Iron Barb with maxed Concentrate, Iron Skin
and Howl.

Any thoughts or experiences on playing IK, Iron, Macemastery, Concentrate
barbs?
(I prefer not to play WW or Frenzy barbs)

www.diabloii.net has an excellent barbarian guide in the barbarian forum
(concentrate barb). Its quite a few pages, but i advice you to read it (all
of it!)

Couldn't find a concentrate barb guide anywhere, found some good general
info though.

Couldn't find the guide either. Would you point out the basics? Skillpoints
and stuff...

To find guide click on strategy forums, then find barbarian.

The IK Maul is relatively easy to find, NM Meph can drop, it's the
armour that is extremely rare.
I guess this doesn't really matter... an incomplete set is an
incomplete set.  :)

No. Mace Mastery doesn't restrict you to slow Mauls, you can use
single handed Mallets, Stars and Clubs or the very fast Knout/Scourge
weapons also. Some the unique/set ones have built in ias.
The chipped gem recipe gives swords an advantage over other weapons.
Any player can go to Hell Larsuk, buy a crappy blue Collossus Blade
and roll it until it's cruel. Shazzam! you have an elite damage
weapon.

> What barbskills work best with a maul?

The Maul is a two-handed weapon so anything but the dual wield skills.
You mention you dont like WW which restricts you to bash, concentrate
or berserk if you want a viable build. I built a 1.09 Berserk Barb for
Hell Meph runs. He is useless leveling act 5 Hell by himself... he
just gets overwhelmed. He's in his mid 80's and I'm now putting points
in conc. He tanks very very well in Partied games.

Sounds painfully slow to level.        Coool.  :)
Add a defiance merc, may as well go all the way.

> Any thoughts or experiences on playing IK,

Even the partial 1.10 set mods look very nice. I have not, and
probably never will own an IK armour so I can't comment on how the IK
set plays, but I will say that the 1.10 IK set is very different to
the 1.09, so take anyones "old" experiences with a pinch of salt.

You may have known before me... :) ..the above chip recipe has been
nerfed in 1.10.

Actually the only nerfed part is the number of sockets.  You can still get
Cruel prefix (which is what matters after all).  I am sure about this, at
least up to today.

Thank you all for helping. I have narrowed it down to Max Macemasteries and
either Concentrate or Berserk. What are the advantages and disadvantages
with these two skills?

Concentrate increases your defense, attack and damage at skill level 20 by
290% 250% and 170% before synergies are factored in

Beserk increases attack and its damage (which is magic damage) at skill
level 20 by 385% and 435% before synergies are factored in.

So as it can be seen beserk will do more damage and is more likely to hit
and all its damage is magic damage, however the fact that it sets defense to
zero is a big drawback. Concentrate is weaker, is not interuptable does less
damage but boosts your defense.

I would prefer to use concentrate myself, but am put off by the fact that I
am finding it very slow going killing things, although I probably need a
better weapon.

As a side question is leap attack only possible when you aren't right next
to monster, ie can I leap attack monster that is attacking me hand to hand?
As leap attack seems very powerful.

The skill planner here is quite useful

Depens for what you are building him for. IMO there is no better char on
Hell Baal MF runs then berserker barb. Reasons:
Warcry - incredible skill, Lister's pack is a piece of cake with this
Massive damage - best in the whole game, in 1.10 it's quite possible to
reach 1000% DMG (!?) which is why it is best for MSLE bosses, considering
95% have no resists to magic. It is a big difference wether you will get 1,
2, 3 or more MSLE emissions.
Natural resistance - free resists anyone?

In my opinion defense still isn't that important (as it should be) - also
you have warcry for protection. I played those runes hundreds of times, died
once, lag.
Gear: in 1.10 still figuring it out; in 1.09 it was a 2-handed cruel
champion sword (because of practicly equal min/max dmg which makes it easy
to judge when you need to switch to ali-baba's, full resistances (F&L are
must), cannot be frozen mode (ravenfrost perhaps?). Now it is I think good
to go with maces, ribcracker ofcourse is the reason, but generally with
warcry and berserk - damage RULES, forget about speed as you will be killing
everything with 2 hits max.

Concentrate has it's advantages but it's more about defense, which I said -
is only important with no warcry builds but it comes with leech - you have
to decide what suits you better, higher dmg, no leech, or lower with
leech...

Hope I was of some help. Have fun!
