It is crappy to all of you who never played hell without anni/torch,
CtA and Enigma or Forty and whatnot... I have none of these and
admittedly have a pretty hard time in hell.
So I play a lot in nm where Woestave is VERY handy on my merc for
levels 30-60 just for the slowing effect. I just rechecked: it's FULL
of crowdcontrol mods. If there is no need for it then why don't you
just hop to one of those "freeee" or "free for noobs" games after you
have done your session and throw it on the ground there, somebody will
be happy about it.

It was crappy long before I had any of those items, too. The damage is just
too low to be good, even in NM.

I play in Hell quite a lot, often untwinked, only with an anni or
torch after I have killed the relevant monsters (I do swap torches
with people I trust), and have _never_ had a CtA, Enigma or Fortitude.
And I do it in HC.
Now that we have that cleared up....
It's still crappy, unless you are playing in Normal, or
untwinked/early-in-ladder in NM.

It's handy for a few things -- e.g., if you don't have a Kelpie to
slow down Dclone -- but overall, it's crappy.

Been there... done that. It's a waste of time since most of the time, the
item will just be picked up and sold to Charsi or Akara. Either that or it
stays on the ground till it disappears.

When we could still use D2Loader, I used to keep a game named "freebies"
open with a mule while doing MF runs in another game... then just keep going
back to "freebies" to drop items. I often found that the game would get too
many people joining and full-lock, resulting in me changing to "freebies-2",
etc...
If anyone started mass-selling items, I would tell them to stop... then if
they kept selling, I'd tell everyone else that if they kept selling... I'd
leave the game and nobody would get free...
...then if they still continued, I'd leave the game and normally go BaalRun
in open games instead for a bit.
I found with a bit of prompting, I could normally fill A1 town with huge
amounts of items and people would be nice to eachother... swapping items,
leaving the stuff they didnt want on floor, etc.
Those that are really good about it sometimes got added to a list on my
computer and whispered at new freebie games in the following days/hours so
they could get more stuff :)
