Set Items: "complete bonus" and item bonus

Hello all,

Is the "Complete Set Bonus" extra bonus for the set, or does it include the
individual item bonus.  For example, for Sander's Folly, Sander's Paragon
(the cap) has a 35% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items.  The Complete set
bonus has 50% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items.  So would my magic find
for the full set be +50% or +85%?

Thanks for the information.

The complete set stats include the partial set stats, but they do not take
into account the individual bonus which appear on set items once you have
more parts of a set equipped.

In the case of Sander's Folly, the 35% MF on the hat is even there when
you have only 1 item equipped, so that's added to the extra 50%MF 'site
wide' bonus when you have the full set.

See Tal Rasha's set on the same page as Sander's Folly, for a more complex
way a set adds bonuses. The +3 sorc skill levels of the full set is, for
instance, added to the +1 sorc skill levels you get off the Orb when you
have 2 or more items equipped. However, the 'Partial Set Bonus' stuff is
just the 'build up' towards the 'Complete Set Bonus'.

Hope this makes things (a bit) clearer? :)

Regards, Patrick.

Thanks, Patrick.  It does make things clearer

I was kinda hoping that the answer would go the other way, so it would make
my choice easier about holding onto the set items i currently have (I have
all but the cap, but only equipping the boots for now).

My crown already has 2 PTopaz, and I am the Amn away from a spirit sword
(beats the Sander's stick), so the major benefits of the full set will soon
be beaten by other items.

Of course, selling the items to Charsi is the one way to guarentee that the
cap will fall off the next monster.

Well, to make things simpler: Sander's Folly isn't exactly a set worth
holding on to. You will indeed be able to beat the performance of that set
with rather mundane runewords (Spirit, Lore) and uniques (about any unique
Wand beats Sander's Wand hands down). So while Sander's is nice to find
when you have a (very) young char, I sell all of it the moment I find it.

As for the 're-dropping': just keep selling it off, the game will 'learn'
eventually! ;)

Regards, Patrick.

Added to that, Sander's hat is just a stupidly hard item to find. I've found
an entire Griswold's set (3 elite items, two of which are 1/3 frequency
drops) and never seen Sander's hat.

The reason is two-fold: one is that caps are such low level items that they
really only drop in Act I Normal. Theoretically they can drop anywhere, but
after Act I Normal there are so many other things that can drop that the
chance of a cap goes way down.

The other is that when a green cap does drop, it is 95% likely to be the
Infernal cap and only 5% likely to be Sander's. I've seen a few Infernal
caps in my time (maybe half a dozen, maybe as many as ten), but nowhere near
20.

So don't waste mule space hanging on to the rest of Sander's set. If you
ever do find the cap, you can find the rest of the set in about half a day
(or quicker if you trade).
