Questions About Valks

Kinlaw - 22 Aug 2008 21:50 GMT I've read it mentioned several times that it is worth it to get valk to 17. Does she gain a new skill or something at 17?
Mine is at 12. Sometimes she has a red outfit on, sometimes blue, etc. Any significance to the colors?
I read that at a high enough level they get auras. What level is that? Arreats has some info about her magic level, and talks about her skills description, neither of which is clear to me. Is there somewhere I have missed on the screen that has some description of the valk other than her picture and life level?
Thanks as always.

I max her anyway - she's my tank !

She's a great tank for me too, even not at max level. She hangs right in there with my stick merc who's 86 and has massive def from fortitude.
Shiflet - 23 Aug 2008 01:56 GMT > IIRC, at 17 she unlocks the best armour, necklace, etc. Nope, best weapon at 17, best gloves at 19, best boots at 21, best belt at 23, best ammy at 25, and best circlet at 27.

So she continues to gain power all the way up to 27. I never knew that. Thanks.

>Does she gain a new skill or something at 17? Nope, she can spawn with a rare warpike(highest damage spear) at lvl 17. And rares can get up to 450 ED, which means very high damage.

Perhaps this idea was based on the fact that Valks can get CtC (Chance to Cast) spells on the weapons that spawn. So you can get amp damage, decrep, etc., which can be almost as nice as an aura.

They can't get CtC Decrep, but they can get Amp. Basically, they can get any mods that can spawn on a rare weapon, so at lvl 17, a valk can get a rare warpike with up to 3 prefixes and 3 suffixes. And since "of Amplify Damage"(5% chance of lvl 1 Amp) is a suffix, they can potentially spawn with that suffix on their weapon. The full list of C2C items they can get is: Firebolt, Charged Bolt, Ice Bolt, Frost Nova, Nova, Lightning, Chain Lightning, Amp Damage, and Hydra(which only spawns on rare amulets, so a valk can't get this CtC unless it's lvl 25+).
The damage these do is miniscule and basically useless, though the icebolt/frost nova ones at least chill and slow enemies, and Amp however WILL be useful as even at lvl 1 Amp, that's still 8 seconds the enemy takes double damage from your physical attacks.

I may have to research Shadow Masters and what mods they can spawn with. My Shadow Master seems to be casting Meteor with some regularity (big fireball falls from the sky, bunch of critters get bathed in sea of flame). I forget what level she started doing this at. The only problem with Meteor is that everyone is usually dead before the damn thing hits the ground! LOL
Can I find this info on Arreat Summit or do I need to visit elsewhere? No need for direct link, just point me at a site, please.
Cheers! Engram

Thanks, that was what I had read about that made me incorrectly remember it being auras.
Bob I - 23 Aug 2008 02:34 GMT Actually I only put one point in Valk, and wear Peace armor(chance to cast on striking casts a lvl15 Valk)
