So I'm stomping around in NM act 4, and this superior sharktooth drops.
Just increased durability, but...

Took it to Larzuk and asked him to punch some holes. Got three.

Got the Shael Um Thul on mule... Just a matter of doing the shuffle.

Yay! :)

While I'm happy for your Merc's Duress, I did mention in the previous post
that you should use a 'worthy' armor for one. A Superior Sharktooth armor
(is it ethereal?) certainly does NOT fall in that category.

The only plus-side is that you, if it is non-ethereal, can also use it as
an Armor for a melee build (Uber-Smiter for instance), although also for
that a Superior Sharktooth armor (an Exceptional, not an Elite item) is
not a good choice.

Anyway, as long as you're happy, I shouldn't complain. ;)

Regards, Patrick.

><sigh> Piss in my cheerios, why doncha?

How would you feel when you told someone a week ago to not buy a certain
piece of equipment because you know it's of bad quality.

Today, you find out that same person has bought exactly that piece of
equipment, totally ignoring your well-meant advice.

If that's 'pissing in your cheerios', so be it.

Regards, Patrick.

Now, now people... dont argue... just give those "cheerios" to someone that
could use a Duress (pissed on or not)...

Congratz on the making of your Duress for your merc. Personally if it was
for merc only it would've been better in an "Ethereal" armor and probably a
higher quality kind of armor. Sometimes it's even better to find the high
stuff that's ethereal with no sockets and take the risk of using the Cube
recipe to punch the holes in them. If it works the bug works. If the bug
wasn't removed. Your def multiplies craploads. Can't remember the figures
but i'm sure someone will tell you. Anyways congratz again. Atleast you have
a duress a character can use aswell as a starting point. :)

Yep - Duress in an average armor is still a damned good armor.
Congrat's!

Pretty much my thought, too, especially since experience shows me that
if I were to wait until I found "The ultimate super-bestest premium
top-of-the-line armor" to put it in, I'd have a beard down to my ankles
by the time I was able to build it...

(Which goes along with the fact that the Um that went into this duress
is, aside from the Pul I got a couple years ago, the highest rune I have
*EVER* personally laid eyes on "in game" in the entire time I've been
playing the game - I must not hold my mouth right, or something, 'cause
seeing the "godlike" gear everybody raves about is an event that just
doesn't happen for me)

I solo play, offliine, so all my gear is self-found.

So I'm the same - the list of gear you see as 'recommended' in most
builds is beyond my reach, unless I get lucky.

Hell, I still haven't seen a SoJ, yet they're handed in in the
hundreds (thousands ?) in order to make Mega-Diablo spawn...

Yep, exactly.

SOJ? Yeah, I've read about 'em existing, but as far as my personal
experience is concerned, they're right up there with Santa and the
Easter Bunny - Mythical critters that might be neat, but don't really
exist.

Skin of the Vipermagi? Yeah, sure - you say it exists, and I've seen it
mentioned in various places, but have I ever, in all the years I've been
playing, laid eyes on one? Nope... And until I do, I'll continue to
consider it "imaginary".

And continue to make do with what I can/do actually get my hands on...

I've had Vipermagi drop twice from NM Andarial in less than 30 runs
with no more than 100% MF gear.

I've found two in the time I've been playing Diablo II. The first one was
from a random pack of Shaman/critters on my way to Hell Countess, in the
Black Marsh. This was 2 Ladders ago. My second I found in the previous
Ladder, from one of the Council members in Act 3 Travincal.

Beyond that, I got 2 more, also 2 Ladders ago, when someone gave their
accounts to me. He apparantly found the two of them.

So, they're there. Run NM Andariel repeatedly if you want to increase your
chances.

It's quite real. Of course, especially if you're looking for 'something',
the game will not drop that 'something'. But I've found (and discarded,
for pgems) plenty of unique Serpentskin armors. As another posted
mentioned, NM Andariel can drop it; I personally found one in Act 2 NM at
the earliest, so I'm not sure where the 'line' is with regard to regular
monsters being able to drop it... But running NM monsters/bosses (walk in
the park for most builds, even with self-found gear) should get you one
sooner rather than later.

Alternatively, enter some 'items-for-pgems' games, or check some
trade-forums and you can probably acquire a lowish one for a handful of
pgems.

>And continue to make do with what I can/do actually get my hands on...

See above, all depending on how you play. If you only want to play with
self-found, and don't want to trade, you need a bit more luck. But even
then, Skin of the Vipermagi is common enough.

A Stone of Jordan is, of course, in a whole different league.

Good luck MFing!

Regards, Patrick.

I've found 3 myself. One from Hell Mephy, one from something in Andy's
room(but not Andy herself) in NM, and the third from a random monster in
Hell Arcane Sanctuary.

Yeah, I've had tons of em drop for me as well.
