Hey all,
Picked up the Ultimate Diablo Chest the other day in a bargain bin
after hearing about the ladder reset. Figured that it might be a fun
experience whilst I wait for Demigod and SC2 :D
So I've played a bit of Sacred and D2 before, as well as MANY
roguelikes, and quite a few RTS, FPS and cRPGs so I not a complete PC
noob. But searches for active D2 sites on google were pretty barren,
and I want to hit the ground running. Does anyone know of any good
guides for decent character builds with the new patch (I realise that
it was just a no-CD one) and how to play efficiently online? From what
I've read in the manuals, and a bit on some forums, an Blizzard Sorc
or some kind of Assasin sounds fun, so char builds for those would be
heaps of help.
Many thanks,
sheepyd.

This page does not seem to be loading right for me.
Clicking on any of the strategy guides in the left column does not bring
them up, but rather an empty page.
Just me?

Same here today. Could just be a temporary server glitch. Try again later.

time to getting info on D3

Pure Blizz sorcs can do MASSIVE damage to non-cold immunes, but there's a
LOT of cold immunes out there, and it can get realllllly annoying just
standing back and letting your merc deal with them all(and if you find a
nasty CI boss pack, that's not always an option). For a new player or a
player on a budget, I'd rather recommend a lightning/orb sorc over blizz to
start with. A trap assassin however can be very effective even with cheapish
gear, as you have 2 forms of elemental damage, and a merc and a strong
minion to deal with the few dual immunes you might find. For more info,
there should be a few trapper builds and guides on the diabloii.net assassin
forums(actually, the dii.net forums are a good place for finding all sorts
of builds, ranging from effective builds on a budget to the common cookie
cutters to very expensive variant builds that most of bnet will never even
think of much less actually try). And of course, any questions you ask here
we'll be happy to answer.

You can't really tell what it is like to play a build just by the char
class. With sorcs, you have area-of-effect spells like Blizzard and
Meteor, and aiming-shooting spells like Lightning and Fireball, and
even a minion spell: Enchant. With assassins, you can basically
either fight in melee (martial arts builds, which would be quite
difficult for a newbie to play)) or use traps (easy and effective,
requiring no special gear).
You mainly need to be clear on what kind of attack you most enjoy
using to kill monsters -- melee, missiles, magic or minions -- and
then choose a build that plays to that strength. There are lots of
options.
