I want to add a socket to a 3 os archon plate (grey). Is this possible?
If so how? Will adding a socket change the items stats?

If you mean it is ethereal (with no sockets), then it is
possible. If it already has sockets, then that is all that
can be done with that particular armor regarding sockets.

Larzuk will probably give it four sockets using the socket
quest in A5.

If you want three sockets, you will have to try the
cube-rolling formula for armor and see how many it will give
you (random 1-4), with the chance of the ethereal bug
doubling the ethereal defense of the armor.

Full confirmation to the above. There's no way to add sockets.

However... If you are playing on B.Net, be aware a 3 socket Archon Plate
is usually worth more than a 4 socket one.

How much def does the 3 socket armor you mention have?

If you offers yours up for trade, you should be able to get at least an
equal def Archon Plate with 4 sockets.. So perhaps that's the route you
should consider taking?
