I am trying to delete a friend who isn't "on" any more and am having a
problem. His account appears to be "boom"  Whenever I enter "/f r
boom" I get the message "boom was not in your friends list" I have
tried using zeros instead of "o's" in various combinations without
success.

Is there any other way to delete this account from list? Or is it
possible there is some hidden <ctrl> char causing the problem? If so,
what could I do to investigate this further? Any help appreciated....

Sounds interesting. You say he's not playing? Usually the problem is that
they talk via /f m meaning that chat to everyone at once. Alot of people
hate this. I can't help it i'm lazy and chat that way. If you were to have
removed him due to this and he's still playing it must be done at both ends.
If he hadn't done it then whenever he talks to other people you'd still see
his msgs. Kind of a puzzle you've got there. :-/

I think it was Chemo Savy <Tonto@Tepee.com> that wrote something

Well, unless there's a clear all for the friends list, I think you're
stuck with it.  Though you could try posting a link to a screen shot
of what the name looks like in your friend list and we might be able
to suggest some tricky thing they've done with the spelling/characters
used.

I am an idiot!

His name was listed as i.e. tangier(boom) and I thought the account
was in parentheses, but obviously when I compared his name to my other
friends on the list, the whole name was the account, he had used the
parentheses as part of his account name!!!!

Sorry to have wasted your time....

Even though I know you found a solution already, here is another one:
All the accounts in your friends list are preceded by a number, and you can
address the entries by this number. So for example you could type /w %f23
test, and you should be able to remove the account with /f r %f23 (or
whatever the number is).

This feature is also documented on http://www.battle.net/info/friends.shtml
in the second last paragraph.
