Greetings. I just bought a copy of Diablo Battle Chest and am about to
install it on my desktop comp. I would like to install it also on my laptop
so I can play D2 online wherever I go. My question is will this create
problems with online registration on Battle.net as it might detect different
IPs/ different machines  (kinda like how WinXP activation work)?
Thanks for any help!

No problems.

Playing Diablo/D2/LOD is "by session" and the IP address is
irrelevant (think dial-up). However, you will not be able to
play with BOTH computers at the same time (or even leave
your home machine with the online game running while you are
travelling) because that would have two instances of the
same CD key online at the same time--and that is prohibited.

Ok, gotcha. Thanks for putting my concerns at ease. Time to play!

Yep, I just want to second that. I have Diablo on my home computer and the
same disk loaded on my laptop.
I play each one at different times online. It goes by the open sessions.

Something you might want to know. I have 2 CD keys of D2/LOD. However, one
time, my computer shredded one of my LOD disk. But I was able to use one LOD
disk in both of my computers. I booted one computer and then once the game
was running, I just took the disk out and used it in the other. Now, I don't
know if it was because I loaded a different LOD disk in the registry, but it
worked.
You do need separate D2 disk for this to work intially.  Can't get around
that.
BTW, I did buy another LOD disk, just a pain in the butt switch cd around
and it only cost me 20 bucks.

The game doesn't care what DISK you start it with, as long as a proper
key was entered when you installed it.

You can bypass the disks altogether by using Virtual Daemon to load an
image of the CD.

You might want to consider buying another Battle Chest (you need both
Classic and LOD serial numbers) for separate installs. Then you could
have both computers online and make xfering items from one character
to another very reliable and easy. I also do my own "rushes" on my own
characters without having to give up the "forge reward."

I use Alcoholsoft's Alcohol 120% for virtual image mounting of the
disk to free up the DVD drive. This is a bit of a "pricey" solution
but they do have free lifetime upgrades. They only allow one
installation per computer but its easy to install on both computers
and use on both by activating each separately. Just ignore any "new
version available" options on the computer you don't have in
"activated" mode. If you dont mind the play disk in the drive then
this option isn't necessary.

Enjoy best game I ever played,
Chemo

The free Daemon Tools does exactly the same, so the OP has no need to
shell out the cash for Alcohol 120%...

Patrick.
