The initial comments I read about Hellgate London were not great. Now
that the game has been out a while, I wonder if it's any better. The
gameplay videos on youtube look very interesting and Diablo like.

Heh! I didn't see this post before I posted my link to a Toms recent review.
Also, my ignorance knows no bounds, I was unaware of the game's existence,
at least consciously, until I read about it at Toms.

It might not seem so bad if you're going to it from D2. If you've
been playing MMORPG's though it sounds like you'd have more problems.
Playing WoW you're used to and expecting to see hundreds of other
characters running all over the place. What I've heard of HG:L is
that *everything* is instanced, so you only end up with a few people
in the various area's. Sort of like starting an 8 player game of D2,
having it fill up, but each zone can have at most two players in it,
so even though you might be able to talk in game with the other
people, you can't actually interact with them.
Though I did hear this way back when it was first released, and it may
have changed some since.
