I picked up a Jewell with the description of "Garnet Jewell of Freedom"
with fire resist +9% and "Requirements  - 16%"
The latter baffles.  Can someone explain.  I've never come across this
before, at least not that I can remember.

Look closer, it's 15% not 16%.

One of my long-standing grumbles about the game - They could have at
least used a legible typeface... Among others, 5 & 6 and 8 & 9
frequently can't be distinguished unless seen against a solid black
backdrop (and sometimes even then it's difficult, at best)

Agreed.

Put it in a socketed item, then equip that item. Now all requirements
for equipping other items are 16% lower than normal - So, for instance,
if you have a sword that would normally require a 100 strength to equip,
and you're wearing the item with the jewel in it, you only need a
strength of 84 to be able to equip the sword.

Not quite that powerful.  The jewel does lower Str/Dex requirements,
but it only affects the item it is socketed in.

????

That's news to me, and contrary to both what I've been told before, and
what I recall from practical application - for a time, I specifically
relied on the fact that a "-x% requirements" jewel in a hat one of my
early sorcs had would let me wear armor that I couldn't equip otherwise
because the strength requirement was too high. Then again, it's been
long enough on both counts that things may have changed with the various
patches since...

Huh.  It's been my belief that 'requirements - x%' works the same
whether the mod is inherent to the item or added by a jewel, but
I've never actually tested this, so it could well be that I'm wrong.
I'll check this out, next chance I get.

I am not sure myself.
I guess that we will have to wait for Patrick's clarifications..

I feel flattered, but see Shiflet's response; it only affects the item the
jewel (or Hel) is socketed in. I don't have any experience with patches
before 1.09, so I cannot comment on the game's behaviour before that with
any 'authority'. *ehrm* ;)

Regards, Patrick.

In fact, you, Danny, Misfit and few others who are still active on
this "fading away" NG are among the best references one could hope
for.
As far as i am concern, i forget almost as fast as i learn...so
everyday is a new one !!
(light exageration here, but still..)

The only problem with Danny is his Alzheimer...  ;)

Nothing has changed, a -requirements jewel ONLY affects the item it's put
in, and always has been that way. Same with Hel runes.

Thank you for all of the replies.  I seem to have stirred up a hornets
nest over this.  I find that's one of the grerat things about this NG.
Ask about one thing, you get a reply along with tons and tons of info,
sometimes OT, but always interesting.  Thanks again.  Peter
