Best merc gear for Smitter

Hi Guys,

Got my smitter to leave 65 last night. Hes using :

Fortitude
Hearld of Zakrum
Greif phase blade
Gores
Average helm, belt
2 average rings
Resist all 30 ammy

With holy shield Def at 16.5K and Smite dmg at 800 (seems way too
low). Max block.

Maxed Holy shield, Fant at 18, Definace at 18, Smite at 12.

Resistances are 75, 65, 65, 75 in hell. Issue is im running out of
mana fairly quickly against boses.

My merc has nothing but i've got stashed away an infinity polearm and
another fortitude. Question. Whats the best merc setup for my smiter?

It's low cause HoZ is not a smiter's shield. A smiter needs an elite shield,
HoZ is exceptional. You need to up it to get good damage out of it. Plus,
you haven't maxed fana or smite yet either, which will help the damage some.

Honestly, you should have maxed Fana and Smite before putting any more than
1 point in Defiance.

There's no such thing as a "best" setup. My choice would be a might merc
with an eth Duress, eth Vamp Gaze, and eth Doom, but there really isn't a
"best" setup. Just make sure he has life leech, a high damage weapon, and I
like my mercs to have a source of Crushing Blow too.

Ok thanks. I've now got the runes and up the HoZ so will do that today
sometime. I've now stopped putting points into Definance and started
maxing Smite. Also got a Dracul's and a nice String of Ears last night
from trades so that should up the life leach my Smitter will get.
Acually was supprised at how quickly he killed boses and I guess this
is down to the crushing blow.

So hopefully after tonight my Smitter will hit alot harder.

I'd max fana before Smite, as it helps all your attacks(you WILL want to
zeal against most mobs in Hell).

Smite doesn't leech, so that will only help when you use a different attack
like Zeal. Only way to heal with Smite is through Life Tap(which Draculs can
cast)

Crushing blow+being unblockable and ignoring defense.
