Hi, I just started playing Civ4 about a month ago - bought Civ4
Complete (vanilla, Warlords, and BTS) and patched all up to latest
versions (vanilla 1.74, Warlords 2.13, BTS 3.17). Have been playing
mostly the Earth 1000 AD scenario and enjoying it a lot.

My oldest son and I used to play the Civ3 Conquests Napoleon scenario
and were wishing for a scenario of that era in Civ4, so this afternoon
I went to civfanatics.com and checked to see what all was available
for download - found and downloaded lots of cool stuff, found more
cool stuff to go back and download later when I can use my
girlfriend's fast DSL access.

Now the problem - I've just fired up BTS and tried to load some
scenarios, and each time as soon as the scenario finishes loading it
says "You have been defeated!" and tells me I played like Dan Quayle.
What is the problem here? Many of these scenarios had over a thousand
downoads from civfanatics, and multi-star ratings, so I guess they
must have worked for lots of people. Is it something to do with the
newest patches that breaks these scenarios? Any other ideas?

The ones I have tried so far and gotten the "instant defeat" message
are: 1600 AD CIV Gold BTS (1.3); 1790 AD for CIV Gold BTS (1.2); 750
AD for CIV Gold BTS (1.1); and Crusades! for CIV Gold BTS (1.2).

I found one new BTS scenario that started up just fine:
AmericanCivilWar. Unfortunately, I'm not really that interested in
playing out the ACW as a Civ4 game, I just picked it up for my son in
case he is interested.

Sigh. What a let-down - all of those nice shiny new scenarios to try,
and the only one that works is one that I don't especially want to
play.

I'm gonna fire up Warlords now and see if the Napoleon mod that I
downloaded for it works...

Duh! I found the problem - all of these scenarios require a mod called
Civ Gold - I saw that, but didn't realize it was a mod - sounded more
like a marketing package to me.

Now going to see how big a DL is needed for Civ Gold, or else hunt for
some different scenarios to play...
