Oh, the irony

So, after months (has it been years?) of complaints about the mapserver
ghosting issues that many people using certain ISP and/or hardware
combinations, the devs of CoX finally came through with a /sync command
to help fix the issue - too little, too late for the big chunk of
players who left in disgust to go to a more stable MMO (for them), but
at least it was finally addressed.

But there is a certain irony to the fix...  The day the patch with the
/sync command went live, lag and rubber-banding became horrible.  At
least on Virtue.  And there has been a marked increase in the jump-skip
lag issues since then.  Asking around on help and broadcast, it's
apparently system-wide.  It seems they fixed one issue affecting a small
audience, and ended up affecting the larger audience too.

The irony is, I had recently switched ISPs and was no longer
experiencing the ghosting issues that had been plaguing me...  Finally
it's all stable and running perfectly, then the "fix" for my old problem
is making playing annoying at times.  I just can't win!  heh.

Still, I'm glad they got the fix in there.  It shows that players are
important, and even if it was a relatively small group that were being
affected by the old sync bug, at least they were acknowledged.  That
bodes well for the general attitude of the company towards the players -
take care of them, they'll take care of you.

Haven't been any issues for me. I had an issue for awhile with mapserver
disconnects, but that seems as though it was a problem somewhere between
my computer and virtue. I'm on the east coast. That seems to have
cleared up though and I haven't noticed any problems of note introduced
with the /sync command.

So far I've only had rubber banding on Virtue once since the patch, and
/sync fixed it.

I tried playing on Victory again, but found it laggy, and ended up
bouncing over to Infinity, where things have been pretty smooth.
[Main reason for leaving Virtue was to be able to use the Gallimaufry
name/character again for my soldier.]

And all it took was the removal of Statesman and his agendas.
I wonder how the game would be now had he not been around, steering the
game to what he wanted to play, not what we wanted.

I don't particularly want you to FOAD, myself. You'll be more of
a cautionary example if you'll FO And Get Chronically, Incurably,
Painfully, Progressively, Expensively, Debilitatingly Ill. So
FOAGCIPPEDI. -- Mike Andrews responding to an idiot in asr

well, he's been gone quite awhile, and I'm pretty happy with the job the
dev team has done in supporting and extending the game. I'm particularly
happy with all the qol enhancements this past  issue. Good god, why did
it take so long to figure out we needed to be able to sort and organize
contacts??!
