Will it be worth getting? I am currently running FM07 and will hopefully be
getting a powerful laptop soon so would upgrading be worth it or should I
stay where I am?

I think you're in a big if...

If you like FM Live, go for that!

If you like drunk management, without bothering to get online to log in to
be able *after 24+ hours* to tweak your tactics (and again for scouting,
training, and so on...), go for FM 2009.

Me, I'd go for FM 2009. But most of the people here are enthousiastic about
FM Live...

i'll probably get both.

there's talk that FM2009 will have some major changes, namely theyre
adding a 2.5D Match screen, apparently.

2.5 D? Slightly more isometric than, well, 3/4 isometric? I suppose that
means SI are going to add a false perspective in height since the old way
of expanding dot size just would not do. Good though.

Eventually they would have to take the plunge and go whole hog 3D. The
tech and gfx are mature enough for it. The niggling little problem is
tying it in with the AI. (Yes, that was sarcasm.)

well, i've been told they've been playing with the 3d engine used in a
PS2 game sega did, called "Let's make a soccer Team" or something,
though obviously tweaked and altered.

Basically I want what I get from the previous FMs. I'm not interested on
going online to play, I just want to play my game. Would that be FM09?

Right. FM Live, it's aliiive. All online.
FM2009, continuation of the old traditions. Solo gameplay.

More important: drunk management can be continued with fm2009 ;)

Great, cheers guys. When I bought FM07 I was hoping it would be the one and
only edition where Oxford started in the Conference, FM09 will be the third

I'm hoping FM09 will be the only edition with Gillingham in League
2...

(waits for the obvious comments about FM10 and Conference...)

The Gills will do a Luton and fade out of existence in FM10. But with the
magic called 'the editor', they rise to the Premiership and become richer
than ManUtd and a transfer kitty bigger than Real and Barca combined.
Shame their rep will still be Sunday pub side grade.

I'll probably pass again, unless I can actually manage Durham City.
There's still plenty of life left in the saves I'm running on FM06.

I may consider FM09 if there's a huge amount of new stuff in it, there
wasn't enough in FM07 and 08 for me to go out and buy it.

As for FM Live, I have no interest in that whatsoever.

> Read some of the posts on the official forum (you dont have to be a
member to read the posts). You can also watch the youtube videos that have
been release about fm2009. Some of the things that have been announced are
a 3D match engine (although you can still use commentry or 2D if you want).
The game now uses the FMLive match engine, pre\post match press
conferences, assistant manager tactical advice\ feedback, Improved transfer
module & female managers (although this only applies to people playing the
game there WILL NOT be female managers in the game itself). The game is due
for release of 14 November which is slightly later than previous version
which is a bit disappointing. There will be blogs in the comming weeks and
a demo should be available mid\late October. I've already pre-ordered my
copy and am thoroughly looking forward to it. I think it will be a massive
improvement over FM2008.
