I have been playing as mainly medic(after trying each class) and gotten to
about 5000 points since the game started.  I thought I had settled on this
class, but after becoming disenchanted with the medic unlock and reading
posts here decided to start a different account.

I tried support instead and found myself playing this class and special
forces.  I have gained more medals and ribbons since playing these classes
than in the months spent as a medic.

I have come to appreciate the game more since changing to support - it is
almost like playing a different game.  Anyway, I thought to post this to
encourage people to try a different class than the one they may be used to -
it has been rewarding for me for sure.

I suppose this shouldn't be a big surprise - similar things happened when
playing TFC and Tribes, but it seems to make it that  much more relevant
when your stats are tracked by the game....

What a nasty effect of ranking, encouraging people to stay in one class. I
typically play 3-5 classes a map, switching based on the objective and the
needs of the squad or the team. I routinely score in the bottom 10% of a
map, but that's because I'm a squad leader playing conservatively to
maintain a precious spawn point for my squad, allowing us to recover those
flags that the point whores have lost in search of new frags.

If I'm a squad member and most of the squad has gone AT to deal with a run
of armor, I'll go support just to make sure they don't run dry. As an AT, I
find it so much nicer to have a Support with me to keep me stocked so I
don't have to ration my rockets. Support is also a very effective anti-heli
position, as you can lie prone in cover and act like a one-man mobile AA,
driving off most heli's. (And that's with the regular MG. I understand the
unlock works even better.) If you find a real mobile AA, you can keep it
stocked. (It only carries 3 salvos of 4 rockets each.) (Don't forget to
load up anybody else's mobile AA you come across. Those things are
voracious.)

It's best to play the class that others aren't playing. That's the class
most likely to be needed next. Even sniper is sometimes useful, to deal
with AA's and other snipers. (Had to do that last night. Once the threat
was dealt with, I kamikazied a position so I could switch back to some
other class.)

Support is my class of choice -for precisely the reasons you mention:
Resupply for AT.
AA Support (I hate hovering enemy helis)

Other uses:
Supressing fire - if hanging back while the rest of the squad takes the
flag.
Resupplying Spec-Ops - a support/spec-ops team behind enemy lines or
holding flags can do a lot of good (while having fun).
Resupplying Engineers - if using mines

With a bit of luck -and teamwork from the other players I can usually
get a fairly decent score...
