Hello all. I wonder if anyone can tell me what file in AOE to edit so I can
play the game without the cd in my laptop. Thanks in advance.

there is a "no CD" hack available for The Conquerors 1.0c version of
the game, although it is probably illegal to use it.
http://www.bskzone.com/ certainly used to have a copy of this hack
available for download although it may have been withrawn. :-/

NOCD patches or cracks are not allowed because they
violate EULA. sorry.
