Truly. As long as you leave the power running, you can die as many
times as you want and return to the same room you left, but if you try
to conserve a little electricity by saving to flash and powering off
then you are for some reason punished by being returned to the
beginning of the dungeon. I can't imagine recording the room where
you left off really takes that much space.

Isn't that the way all saves happened in Zelda games? Maybe I am missing
something, but I can't remember one where it let you save in the room you
are in.

Yeah, that's probably true. It takes them 2 years to redo the same
basic game, and they can't even improve this feature.
