Namco named as Mario Baseball developer

November 29, 2004 - Nintendo's pairing with Namco is starting to bear some
ripe fruit, with Donkey Konga about to see its third entry and Star Fox
Armada taking shape into an impressive 2005 title. Add one more game to the
list of cross-developed titles: Mario Baseball.

Nintendo and Namco are working together on this latest Mario themed sports
title, which was first announced earlier in the week. Nintendo is handling
production with Namco's baseball game development staff working on the
actual development of the title. This is similar to the design setup for
Star Fox.
Only a few details on the title have been revealed so far. The game will
feature a "Challenge Mode" that lets players work through a progressive
storyline. A versus mode has players pick their favorite Mario character to
captain a team against a rival, with a Trophy Mode allowing for tournament
play. Mini games and a baseball encyclopedia will also be included.

We expect to hear more on the tentatively titled Mario Baseball shortly, so
stay tuned to IGNCube.

I'd like to see something like Baseball Simulator 1000 (NES). Great
game. One of the few sports games which I just loved.

Other good sports games:
Superstar Hockey (C64)
Decathlon (VCS)

There was also a fine C64 basketball game whose copy protection beat the
hell out of the disk drive. Loved the game, but I half-expected my drive
to die each time I played it.

Double Post...

I hope it has the same j'ne sais quoi that the first game boy version had.
One of my favorite base ball games ever. lol. Not sure if it was better or
worse, IMHO, than Base Ball Simulator.

Lots of fun and I look forward to another light hearted base ball game, a
lot.

A gameboy game like BB Sim 1000? What was it called?

I meant Sim on the NES/SNES, not GB. That would be pretty neat, though.

Sports games still suck - no matter who is in them (even Rumble Rose).
