First of all, this is a very fun game and peripheral, IMO. There's a
great selection of music, and maybe they will do an add-on disc as
well. I can't imagine the fun playing this at a party with 4 sets of
bongos going. Not to sound corny, but I think that must be pretty
cool.
I've played the drums for over 20 years, and I think I have pretty
good rhythm for a white guy... the key to this game is anticipating
the beat. What I've experienced is that to get a "GREAT" you have to
hit just slightly sooner than you "feel" like you should.
I don't know how playing this game for a long time is going to affect
my drum set playing, probably jack my timing up altogether, but it is
fun, so maybe it's worth it.
Anyone else feel like you have to "jump the gun" just slightly to get
that GREAT rating?

I found that out myself as well, and I've been a professional musician for many
years. It's been an adjustment to anticipate the beat without trying to rush
the tempo.

Another drummer here :). A different game a system I know but I had the same
experience with "Space Channel 9" on the dreamcast. I haven't the money to
spend on DKonga yet...glad to hear it's fun though.

They had it at Fry's for $39.99, so I decided to go for it. Not bad
for the game and the bongos. Plus, I *have* to buy another set of
bongos so two can play at once.
It is seriously fun, and challenging, even for a long-time
drummer/percussionist. I find myself having a great time and laughing
my a.s off playing some of the more challenging tunes. Very cool.

I've been playing for about the same length of time (not that I think
it makes a huge amount of difference to your ability to perceive
this), and yes, you have to play ahead of the beat by a few
milliseconds. It's slightly irritating, and I hope they fix it for
whatever comes next konga-peripheral-wise.
