Yeah, we all know that the Euros aren't getting Animal Crossing. Known that
for a long time.
But the Aussies? Perhaps.

In the latest issue of Nintendo Gamer, one of Australia's 2 Nint magazines
(the other being Australian CUBE, a crap magazine which copies a lot of its
information from the Euro mag of the same name (sans the Australian
part...) and insists on spelling lava as larva, which just really irritates
me for some reason) there was this article in the news section.

"
ANIMALS COMING
Animals finally crossing our way

It's been a long time coming but it looks like Nintendo's decidedly quirky
and off-beat communication title Animal Crossing is fiinally heading to
Australia. Hooray! Not only that but Nintendo's e-Reader system for the GBA
that allows players to swipe cards encoded with electronic content such as
a new costume for your character is also getting a local release. Double
Hooray!
Remember, you read it here first and this is the official word from our
friends at Nintendo Australia
"

What does this mean? Well, for one thing it means that if it does come out
here, that gives it a higher chance of eventually coming out in Euro... and
if it still doesn't come out there, they at least get to import it and play
the superior PAL version :)

It makes sense. Australia is predominantly English speaking no? In
order for the game to be released in Europe it needs to be translated
into 5 or so other languages as well as localizing it for British
holidays, customs, platitudes, all that stuff. Localizing the game for
Australia would be much easier...

If you're lucky you'll get the new "e+" version that's coming in Japan
and the SD card adapter. :) We'll probably have to wait for Animal
Crossing 2 for that in the US.

I find it really hard to believe that they would create an AUSTRALIAN
version of a game. I would hazard a guess and say that if the game was
released here (Australia) it would be lucky to sell 1000 copies. Seriously.
The market is v. small.

Try reading the reading the codes on the games. I think you'll find a lot
of Australian versions. Let's see what I've got...

AGB-AWRP-AUS (Advance Wars)
DMG-WS-AUS (Star Wars)
DMG-AAUP-AUS (Pok?mon Gold)
DMG-ZL-AUS (LoZ: Links Awakening (Original))
CGB-AZ8U-AUS (LoZ: Oracle of Ages)
AGB-AMTU-AUS (Metroid Fusion)
AGB-AGSP-AUS (Golden Sun)
AGB-AGFP-AUS (Golden Sun: The Lost Age)
DMG-ATEA-AUS (Tetris)
GS-DOL-GALP-AUS (Super Smash Bros: Melee)
GS-DOL-GMSP-AUS (Mario Sunshine)
DOL-GSWP-AUS (Rogue Leader)
GS-DOL-GM8P-AUS (Metroid Prime)
DMG-TR-AUS-1 (Tetris)

Whereas I've got the Euro versions of Skies of Arcadia Legends, Godzilla
DAMM, Harry Potter & tCoS, and Jungle Strike (GB). And the US version of
Pok?mon Red.
All bought new from here, not imported or second hand.

Stranger things have happened...

IIRC, Terranigma was brought out here and in Euro but not in the US.
