Goddamn Capcom!  The controls are backwards, and you can't change them.  In
all the Mega Man games, B is fire and A is jump (left button fires, right
button jumps), but in the Gamecube collection, it's reversed.
And even in games that had config options, like Mega Man 8, those options
are gone.
f.cking Capcom.

Oh--and the sound's a bit wonky, too.  And I noticed a couple graphical
glitches even in the short time I _tried_ to play with the f.cking backwards
controls.  Minor things, though, compared to their big f.ck-up.

I was a little annoyed by the controls too but after playing through
Mega Man 1 I didn't even notice anymore.  It's pretty silly that they
switched the controls in the first place AND don't give you the option
to switch it but I wouldn't recommend the game any less because of it.

Well, I sure as hell do.  I've been playing Mega Man for 15 years, and
shooting with my index finger and jumping with my middle finger is
completely ingrained in my muscle memory.  I can play the game with the
backwards buttons--until I get to a boss.  Then instinct takes over and I
get my a.s kicked because I can't jump in time.
Another annoying thing is this: the game is programmed not to accept other
controllers!  I went and bought a programmable controller, and the f.cking
game won't use it!  I tried some Playstation controllers, through a
converter--no dice.  My friend bought the PS2 version of the game, and it's
the same way.  You can't use a Dual Shock 1, which he wanted to use because
it has digital, not analog buttons.  Nope.  You have to use a Dual Shock 2.
Capcom can kiss my a.s.

Index and middle finger?  Maybe that's your problem.  I've only used my thumbs
for Mega Man games, except for the MMX series, where you have to dash-wall-jump
and keep your X-buster charged at the same time.

I use my thumbs as well but still.. couldn't they have kept the setup
the same as the original games? Why change it when there is no necessity
too?

Still I don't think I'd not get this for that one reason.

Which games are in the Gameboy version?

I really urge you to try it first, if you can.  If you played much Mega Man
before, you might find it harder than you think to adjust.  And, by the way,
the PS2 version's controls are not backwards; they're sideways.  If you have
a PS2, they're way easier to adjust to than the exactly-backwards Gamecube
controls.
The Game Boy version is a compilation of the Game Boy Mega Man games, I
think.  It's not out 'till September.

I can use my thumb--I do for most games, but it's way harder in Mega Man.
Some games practically require finger control (Street Fighter is another
one).  I'm through with this game anyway.  I have every game on the disc
except Power Fighters, anyway.  I was only buying it for that game, and to
"authorize" my illegal copy of Power Battles, as well as the better picture
clarity that new consoles can dish out.

Ahh, see I only use my thumbs when playing on a pad so the button
switch isn't as big a deal.

The thing that really pisses me off is that the GameCube version for
whatever reason doesn't have all the remixed music that the PS2
version has in Navi Mode. I bought the GC version because it has
faster loading times but if I knew they had left out the new music I
would've bought the PS2 version...

Why do developers have to pull stupid crap like that? What possible
reason could there be for the GC not to get the remixed music?

Maybe it's an unlockable? Although that'd still be stupid. At any rate, I'll
be picking this game up soon. I loved MegaMan on the NES.

The back of the box says it has it, so there's still the possibility that
it's unlockable.  But I doubt it--I'm more inclined to think that leaving it
out is just another mistake in this shoddy job.

Me too. I just use my thumb for both buttons, but this was an awful move on
Capcom's part.

My guess is that someone saw the big "A" button on the Gamecube controller
and miscalculated. They figured the most important function in Megaman was
shooting, so it didn't matter that they were reversing things. The problem
(besides the even more central fact that it's backwards from what we're
used to) is that shooting is NOT the most important thing in Megaman anyway
- far and away, jumping is more essential.

IGN managed to do their usual drawn-out review (though only 2 pages this
time! granted, all the games had been released already, and they had
nothing to say, but limiting their blathering to 2 pages is a major
triumph) without mentioning the button issue at all. EGM didn't mention it
either.

I wish one of them had; it'd have made me reconsider getting the GCN
version. Gamespot sort of poked at it, but only near the end as an aside.
But to be fair, I already figured I was buying the GCN version, so I'd have
only paid attention if it was pulled out as a major issue - though to be
fair to ME, it IS a major issue and is the first thing I'd mention in any
review.

They also skipped out on 480p support.

Shoot them an e-mail about this.  I would be interested in what they have to
say.
