Why not Gamecube

Just curious but why are there some games that are made for the GBA but not
on the Gamecube?

I've seen titles like Van Helsing, Max Payne and others that appear on the
handheld but not the console.  If the game is being developed to run on a
Nintendo product., why not make it for both the handheld and console?

One guy told me in the game store that some companies just prefer to create
for the GBA only.  Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.  The only thing I can
think of is that dev costs may be higher on the cube than the GBA.

I mean some games like JB:EoN can't "play" the same on both systems.

Still its a bit troubling that some of the games I wanted to play have been
cancelled or not coming to the cube.  I really like the unit, but if this
keeps up I might just have to switch to another console.

1) You can play any GBA game on your Gamecube using the GBA player
(altho some of them won't play very well, or will be very difficult to
play well; like Boktai, which needs UV light). If you view a GBA game
and a GC game as interchangeable, you can play the GBA games on your
Gamecube for about $50.
2) Very few GBA games are of the type that people would accept on the
Gamecube as a game made for the GC (or perhaps that Nintendo is willing
to accept people will like on the Gamecube). There are exceptions, like
puzzle games, some retro games, some tactical games.
3) GBA games aren't really directly portable to the Gamecube (or if they
are, no one or almost no one is doing so).
4) Even if you feel a game for the GBA is interchangeable with a game
for the GC, that is not at all true for programmers.
5) The GBA has a much larger installed base than the GC, leading to more
potential customers than a port to the GC. The average GBA game also
generally has a lower development cost than the average GC game (the guy
who made Rez recently said he could develop a GBA game for around
$70,000, while a console game would cost around $3,000,000.

See 5 above. You need a relatively small staff to make a GBA game, as
opposed to console appropriate (nowadays) games which require a massive
art department to make big 3D environments, sound guys, more complicated
physics, lots more possibilities to test, etc.

You do realize you can own more than one console, right?

Just a thought but it's probably easier to make games for the GBA than
for GC.  Also more people have GBA than GC.

on the other hand, GBA's tie ratio (umber of games sold vs. number of
systems sold) is painfully low, and the game sales are apparently even
more dominated by Nintendo than the GC is.  Also, the games being
discussed here have Xbox and PS2 equivalents, meaning that they only ned
to be ported, rather than built up from scratch.

Yeah, but having a smaller piece of a much bigger pie, at much less
cost, must still be pretty attractive...  I think any really successful
system has a lot more niche games (god knows the there are _so_ many
games released for the PS2 that sometimes I suspect they can't sell more
than about 3 copies each :-).

Games are cheaper to develop for the GBA.

Not only that, but easier. Any schmuck can do a game in 2d with proper
art tools, but to make a decent looking 3d game takes a lot of work.

if you claim that i am a moron, please explain why developers don't port
games between consoles like xbox and ps2, explain to me why pandora tommorow
doesn't have online game play on the gamecube, explain to me why max payne 2
isn't on the gamecube, explain to me why van helsing isn't on the gamecube,
etc...

i know you don't have an explination so you're officially owned :-)

The explanation for your stupidity is surely genetic and has little
to do with your claims, but you're too stupid to figure that out too.

Cloned.

Tell me why I should give a damn.

See above.

LMAO, the only thing you proved is your love for the Brig, Jess.  I haven't
played Mario in years.
