Gamestop VS. Game Crazy VS.ebgames --- which one pays the most for
used gameage ??  (in the u.s.a.)
thanks ...
SPIDERman - 22 May 2004 23:14 GMT
for the record, ebgames sucks.  those guys seem to have a distaste for their
customers, rather than a reverence.  i loathe them and, on principle, refuse
to buy anything there.  all their prices are too high (especially on used
games ---- c'mon guys, clue in! you can get the same old game, NEW, at best
buy for less), and their staff are 'generally' subpar.

selling a game??  EBAY.COM    best prices for buyers and sellers alike.

I love EBGames's policy in selling new games. This has happened on
multiple occasions. Bring display box for a new game to counter. EBGames
employee turn around and opens a drawer, takes out a plastic bag with
game CD plus instructions. Opens the case and puts CD in. I always like
to inform them that when they break the seal on the case, the game is no
longer new.

It's amazing that EBGames continues to do this when I can (in most
cases) walk across the parking lot to a Best Buy and get the same game
in the original packaging, un-opened and at a cheaper price.

If EBGames goes out of business my only response would be "Well deserved".

My EB only keeps one copy opened - if you ask for the game sealed they will
give it to you. I like my EB, the guys there are cool and they often run
trade 4 games / get new pre-order free...actually saves me money when I can
trade 4 games I paid a total of $30 for and get something like Ninja Gaiden
or Pokemon Colosseum free. I even traded 4 games to pre-order Fable and when
it was delayed again I just moved the $50 to something I wanted then...

Also, Best Buy is not cheaper...not even by 1 cent - you can save 2 whole
cents per game a Walmart though...but then there is no selection. In the
last 2 years, I have seen only one game significantly cheaper at Best Buy
and EB said they would match the price. All others have been only sale
prices that are cheaper and EB always matches those.

I find that 80% of the time, they do not have a sealed copy of a game I
want that they have an open copy of on the wall (and that tends to be
the few items they have at a better price point). And EB's policy is to
allow employees to take the games home and play them, and then to sell
those as new.
I like the guys at my local EB too, but the store's pricing isn't
worthwhile most of the time.

Many EBs jack up game many game prices by $5 on many titles, especially
if they don't feel they have a direct competitor nearby (they don't
usually count something like Target or Best Buy as competition). They
don't have the sense to differentiate on game prices tho; I've seen $50
MSRP games for $55, along with $10 MSRP games for $15. So, a good rule
of thumb is, if you don't know what the price on a game is normally, EB
is likely overcharging. (It's not an absolute; they do occasionally have
better prices than elsewhere, but you need to know what things are
priced at elsewhere; in general, EB is not your price friend).

My EB does not control their own prices - their register hooks to corporate
and when they scan the item, sometimes even they are suprised  - when I
bought one game marked $29.99 and it scanned and came up $6.99, the clerk
kept re-scanning because he thought the price was too low. It was a sale
listed on the EB Games site...that the clerk was unaware of. I have
absolutely never seen the prices any higher than Best Buy - with the one
exception I mentioned earlier..(I-Ninja, which Best Buy overstocked and had
to get rid of..). I shop at both but there is a lot of competition for game
sales in my town. The one that cannot keep up is Media Play - they will tell
you that they cannot price match on games because they end up paying more
for the game than the customer and losing money.

In any case, you should always know the current low price when you buy any
where...since just about all stores will match the lowest local price.

They have a new policy at ebgames, you can buy online & return to the
store if you want.  Couldn't do this before. i bought a ton of stuff
online with a 30% msn discount once, got full; credit in store when I
returned some.

I use Media Play for all my hardware purchases; their Replay system
makes it worthwhile. Replay members normally get an effective return
rate of 5% on normal purchases (you need to spend $100 normally to get a
$5 certificate good for anything in Media Play). However, video games,
systems, accessories  etc. normally accrue points at a half rate. Media
Play's Replay system however gives you full points for gift cards, so
the solution is quite simple; buy giftcards and use them to buy video
games or systems. The real solution however is to only use giftcards,
and to only buy giftcards on triple point days, which are days that give
you an effective discount of 15% on all your purchases. Other retailers
may have better first week discounts for videogames, but Media Play
beats the pants off everyone else in terms of consoles that never get discounted.

>My EB only keeps one copy opened - if you ask for the game sealed they will

sh.t I got the 20 questions run when I asked for the game sealed.

"Why do you want it unopened"
Me - "Uhh because it's supposed to be new"
"But this is a new copy!"
Me - "Just give me the f.cking game unopened!"

Once I tried to buy a newer game for a present, all they had was the
opened "new" copy. I had to look at the disc, "So, why are there
scuffs and minor marks on the CD?" I ask, gee it's because the f.cking
employees took the games home *rolls eyes*. Well I know where I won't
be shopping for presents.

I guess it all comes down to who works there. I understand the stance
behind gutting new games but it really leads to alot of problems (they
could at least buy a f.cking shrink wrap machine).

>Also, Best Buy is not cheaper...not even by 1 cent

Eh Best Buy has some really good sales all the time. Older games for
$5 or $10 each, you really can't beat that...

No.

Gamestop, Software Etc, Supr Software, Babbages & Planet X are the same
company.

EBgames, Electronics Boutique & Stop 'n Save are a different company.

Go to any of those stores and try to sell to the people in the store
if you have a game and you see it on the shelf for 40 let the people
know you'll let it go for 30.
