I have it on extremely wink wink nudge nudge confidential information
that Nintendo, in the spirit of going retro as usual, plans to exhume
the game & watch as their next generation console. they hope to capture
the kitsch market along with the old gamers with all the money. my
sources say that video games are all about graphics and visual effects
these days; Nintendo plans to boldly break old ground with the
(re)release of "Manhole", "Helmet" and the extremely controversial
"Ball"

damn this would have made a great april fools joke. crap.

I'm more interested in how they smell, not how they look. I've had
force-feedback, now I want nasal-feedback! I want to smell the grass in
Mario Golf (and those feminine whiffs from beneath Peach's rather short
golfing skirt)

I want smell-o-cube! Maggie Philbin on Tomorrows World promised me these
things, now it's the future.....I want them!!!

That's a very cool idea. But I don't see it EVER happening. Smell-o-vision
didn't take off. It would rock though, if it worked.

Well I was joking......but now you come to mention it, it *would* be a cool
idea!

acually, i heard that this is kind of possible.  i think it has something to
do with the same principle of mixing colors.  there are certain combos of
scents that, when spraid together, would smell like anything!  very much
like the 3 primary colors, where just the right amounts of different colors
can make any color in the world.  i hear they're testing this idea out with
movies...

Dear God, please never let there be a "Blazing Saddles: The Scented
Edition".

I think the major limiting factor on something like smell-o-vision would
be producing the smells (or simulating them) with something that doesn't
require actual chemicals that could dry up or run out over time.  Short
of sticking a chip in people's brains (which I understand is being
experiemnted with) I don't think you could do it with electrical
signals.  I could be wrong of course, an expert I am not.

How about this:

Scented email. Could be applied to games too.

Yes I imagine it would work with games too.  This is what I was thinking
of when I said something that required actual chemicals.  Absolutely it
would work, although you'd have to refill it every so often.

I can imagine that is the case. One of the compounds is probably the smell
of protein or something, and a couple of other things. Cool!

The still images?  Sure.  The movie?  Maybe, or pretty close, if we're
talking about graphical quality, but pre-rendered footage is always more
fluid and natural-looking than in-game footage if it's done well.
But the real question is, will Nintendo WANT their games to look that good?
They might not want their cartoony franchises to look too "real".  If they
keep Zelda cell-shaded, it won't look anything like that, and to a casual
glance, it probably won't look much different than Wind Waker.

I want a claymation style Zelda!
