since this isn't spam, I wont post the address of the auction here.

I just saw an auction on ebay. the person is selling instructions to make a
projector that will project up to a 150 inch image using a regular TV
monitor.

he/she claims it will cost $15 American, and that no special skills are
required.

this has to be bullsh*t, but he has all this positive feedback to back it
up.

how the heck is this possible?

It works by projecting an image through two lenses. Check out www.myimax.com
for some info.

If it sounds too good to be true, then it almost certainly is!

The guy is an a.shole. The instructions are avaialble for free on the
web. The one I saw was just a box taped to a TV with a fresnel lense
projecting the image on a wall.

Projectors are expensive for a reason... you need to get VERY bright to get
a decent image at 150".  A standard TV just won't do that.

It's BS.  Its not even original BS.  Ads for this were in the back of comic
books in the 80's, right next to the ad with the guy that gets sand kicked
in his face.

I remember reading about this scam a couple years ago.  I can't recall
exactly how it worked, but basically was you going to a hardware store and
getting two pieces of clear hard plastic and building a box contraction.
Probably find 'plans' for free on the web.

Will it project an image?  Yes. If its completely dark -- and I mean
covering the windows dark -- it'll project.  Use your imagination and you
might even be able to make something out of the blurry image.

Reminds me of another scam I saw on Ebay recently.  With the current legal
battle going on about telemarketers (all of which should die, by the way)
having "freedom of speech" to harrass their victims while they are eating
dinner, some ahole is selling -- get this -- a freaking .WAV file!  He is
selling the SIT (Special Information Tones) that if recorded to your
answering machine or voice mail might trick telemarketer autodialers into
thinking your number is disconnected.  Basically, same thing the stupid
Telezapper does.

Anyway, these .WAV files are being sold for $15.  The "seller" emails it to
their victim.  You can download it for free or just make it yourself with
any halfway decent sound software.  The first tone is 913.8 Hz, second tone
is 1370.6 Hz, and third tone is 1776.7 Hz.
