Figured I share what happened to me today at the mall.
Went to EB games to sell one gamecube controller and three games:
1. Monster, Inc
2. Harry Potter - COS
3. Starfox Adventures
They offered me $5 for the controller and $2 for each game. I asked if I
could get cash instead of credit. They said I could but it will be minus
20%.
Now I really don't mind the pennies but I was headed to another store in the
mall (GameStop) and wanted to see what they would offer.
So, when I get there the guys goes--$10 for the controller and a final
amount of $39.99 for everything. Didn't get the breakdown for each game. I
was so happy I decided to take the deal in credit.
They gave me a credit slip but I turned around a few minutes later and
placed it on a game I had on reserve.

It's reason like this as to why I "LOVE" eBay!
GameStop only gives $18 to 20 ($25 max but it has to be a huge seller and
within a couple weeks of release) for trade-in on newly released games. I
don't know why people even bother trading in their games. Buy what you know
you will keep (infinite replay value like racers, sports titles and fps
games) and rent those you might tire of quickly or beat in a few days.

The best place to get good value for your games/hardware etc. is eBay.

I sold back three game today for the first time. All three were XBOX
games. Voodoo Vince (beat twice - all voodoo dust collected - all book
pages collected but did not get three of the skulls), Grabbed by the
Goulies (beat once - only half the mini games unlocked), and Blinx (made
it to the second boss - the camera there was was just so bad I had to
quit). $35 in credit - all put to Armed and Dangerous. I got my moneys
worth out of them (execpt Blinx - did buy it used to begin with), so was
glad to get anything for them. eBAY is good (I buy a lot of SNES and N64
games there), but for instant gradification, Gamestop is it.

So, three games = one new game? A complete waste of money, in my opinion.

I pay 40 for a new game (Voodoo Vince). I put over 42 hours into playing
it twice. That's .95 cents an hour of fun. For Goulies, I paid 40 new,
put just about 25 hours into it, so that comes out to $1.60 per hour.
(not all of it was fun, but still). Blinx was a total waste of money (got
it for 15 used, and think I paid 14.99 too much), so anything I could get
for it was gravy.
Gamestop will turn around and sell them for between 25 and 30 each.
Voodoo and Goulies are worth it.

Selling less than one year old games back to *any* store is a waste of
money.
Ebay is the way to go... or just save your money and buy them without
bending over and letting the game stores rape you.

It's about entertainment value. A $40 game that offers 40 hours of fun
is a deal even if you just give the game away when finished.
When you go to the movies, do you ask for your money back at the end
because you're no longer watching the movie ?

There's a place called ebay, you could have gotten way more for that.
Brother Justin - 31 Dec 2003 02:22 GMT
And you could have doubled that 39.99 on ebay.
