It'll be out of date come 2005 but it's interesting to be hearing
about titles being planned for these system already...(aside from all
the GC properties being postponed for N5 just like they did with the
N64 :P)

He said not until 2004 for the XBox.

No chance in hell. The game isn't even done yet.

You realize its shipping around the last week of oct, first week of november
for the pc.. and i am speaking of oct/nov 2003 here, not 2004.
the game is all but finished, and i would wager that the xbox port is
somewhere around 60-75% finished as well.

It's Sierra/Valve. I can guarantee that there will be a delay of some sort.
The bink video I downloaded of HL2 gameplay looks scrumptious. I'd like to
be optimistic about the realease date, but........it's Valve. ;P

Just an example: Unreal Championship came out in November 2002 while UT2k3
came out May 2002. Anyone know who Sierra is contracting to the the console
ports? Gearbox maybe? They're gonna be freed up after Halo PC releases in a
month and Valve will be too busy patching up HL2 for all eternity.

oh, i see. so not until 2005 or 2006 for the N5 and the ps3. Well, at least
those users will get a better version than that for the xbox, unless half
life 3 comes out by then and gets put on whatever console microsoft next
ships... in which case hl2 on the n5 and ps3 is a moot point.

I always get a chuckle from this point of view. Like the news isn't
worth anything because the game is gonna be old news by the time the
next machines come around. It's never a bad thing, when a great game
gets announced for any console. No matter when it gets released. There
will be those who haven't played it yet, and it is a plus for those
people. Plus you never know what extras will be put into those
versions. Great games don't suddenly become moot over time. And Half
Life 2 certainly looks to be a great game.

This is pretty cool news. One of the reasons I was gonna eventually
get an XBOX was to play this title. If it was an N5 launch game I
might wait and just play it on that system when it launches. Now if
they'd just announce the new Doom as coming to next gen consoles as
well......... :)

this is great news, it shows that there is already support for the new
nintendo console.
that is of course, if nintendo manages to send out dev kits in 2004, which
will be required to make that (presumably) winter 2005 release of the
system.

This is good news, since the Xbox will never do this game justice.
However, I'll still be playing it on my PC in a month or so :)
