Pirate Catrs on eBay

Paul Cawley - 23 Jul 2003 13:38 GMT I am amazed at the amount of pirate carts now on eBay, mainly from sellers in Hong Kong, but also in the US! I had my GBA collection stolen a month back, and have been buying replacements, so far I have had the following sent, all pirate carts from eBay sellers... Mario Advance 3 : Yoshi's Island, Final Fight One, Mr Driller 2, Mr Driller Ace. These are full colour knock-offs complete with manuals and boxes, the only way to tell them apart is the slight blurriness on the colour photocopying on the cart label, manual and box, and the fact the PCB just above the edge connector should have (C) 2001 Nintendo, which none of them do. I am pretty pissed at trying to recreate my all original collection, and getting sent this crap. Any ideas or opinions - I realise if you are only a player, it does not matter, but for a collector, these aresholes should make it clearer on their auctions if they are up to this - e.g. don't buy if you are a collector. Cheers, Paul

I really don't care about people copying games and playing them for their own use, but selling me a fraud is crossing the line. Report them to Nintendo. And eBay. And the Feds.
Report it to the Feds at the Internet Fraud Complaint Center here: http://www1.ifccfbi.gov/index.asp

Off the subject here, but judging by those pictures, am I to understand that (in that list) battery-saves are a minority?
Games w/o visible batteries: SMA, SMW (SMA2), Spider-Man, Mario Kart, LOTR (1 + 2), Golden Sun...
But for some reason, Wario Land 4, Pokemon R/S, Metroid, and F-Zero have battery saves.
Is there an FAQ on battery-saves on GBA game carts, the advantages/disadvantages for each? It seems a bit odd that, say, Mario has no battery, while Wario does. Same for Pokemon and Golden Sun. Is there some reason why certain games have battery saves?

percuno - 25 Jul 2003 12:59 GMT Also off-topic, but doesn't it seem odd that the counterfeit carts on the nintendo anti-piracy site seem to be made of higher quality, higher tech components than the originals?

It certainly does appear that way, but obviously you can't judge it by having, say, more chips or a battery. Though the originals look "low tech", it's definite that they have higher-quality chips, and the inclusion of batteries in non-bat-save games lead to eventual battery (and thus save) death. Looks can be deceiving.
And, plus, just LOOK at the cart casing + sticker... BLEAH. SMA2 even has a morphed version of the game box on a sticker!

Though looking at it now... I think I like the pirate Metroid sticker more than the official.
