This appears to be Nintendo's big hardware announcement for E3 2004 that's
"not a successor to either the Gamecube or the Game Boy Advance" -- not a
next-gen system, but a portable that combines a GC and a GBA into one unit.

Wonder if that pic is of the final hardware, or just a prototype model. It's
definitely got all the same buttons as a Cube controller anyway.

Interesting!

You do know that's fake, right? That photo has been flying around the
internet for months now and it's just as fake now as it was back then.
I just wanted to make you aware of that if you're not already.
Hopefully, however, you are.

Makes sense that the photo is fake. The story sounds legit though, or
plausible. I guess we'll see.

I hope the actual unit (if it's real) looks better than that pic.

Yeah, the story sounded iffy... but you gotta admit, the idea would be
sound if done by Nintendo. It'd force people to like the GC, or some
people at least.

That would hardly fit in with the hints Nintendo has given us about the new
device.

If you believe their marketing hype about the new device being some kind
of transcendent videogaming experience, sure. But let's not forget this
is the same company that thought the Virtual Boy would fly, and which
ended their E3 2003 presentation with a freaking Pac-Man game.

All they've really said is it's not a new GC or a new GBA. And since
there hasn't been a handheld that played console games since the
TurboGrafx portable thingy (IIRC), this could pass as new and
revolutionary. It also fits because Nintendo clearly created this new
device fairly quickly, suggesting it's not something that required a ton
of R&D.

But wouldn't a portable game cube basically be the sucessor to the
GBA?

It wouldn't really be combining a GBA into it, it would just be
continuing the tradition of backwards compatibility for the GB

either way it's a really cool idea... personally I hope they do it... even
if it's not their "new big thing"

As others have said, that's an old and fake pic.  Personally, I'm hoping for
some kind of holographic projector.
