When it won't hold charge. When you get about couple hours of game time between charges, I'd consider getting a new one. otherwise just ignore the battery and enjoy the SP. They are designed to last 500 recharge cycles before it starts to lose charges. Assuming you play full time with light on, you'd be lucky to start losing charge before the first year's up.
