Having a real problem with the campaign mission called "A Mirror Darkly"
where you have to defend your base with a bunch of rockets and artillery
pieces on either side of the map whilst the enemy advances up the centre ion
between two lines of mountains.

I know how to win the mission - in theory - but just cannot do it.  I simply
cannot annihilate the enemy units enough to stop them arriving at my HQ.  If
I had access to some MD tanks in the centre portion of the map, I could do
it, or if there was a narrower choke-point, it could easily be done, but I'm
on about my tenth attempt now. I wouldn't mind so much, but it's all the
relentless clicking through the damned intro' every time I have to start the
mission again.

Does anyone have any tips because this is the first mission in both Advance
Wars games that's giving me a real headache?  I'm totally crap at defence
missions - especially when I can't build new units.  If I can't get past
this mission, then my game time with this cartridge is going to be really
limited.

SINISTER INCORPORATED - If we can't have the world, NO-ONE can!

If memory serves on this mission, I was in the same boat as you.  I saw
that my rockets were useless unless I pulled them up at the start of the
battle.  So I spent the first turn or two destroying what I could, but
not with the rockets.  Eventually, then posistioned to defend the city
they can be used and are more than useful.  Just keep your artilery out
of harms way so you can watch what the enemy is doing!

Cheers to you both, I did it, and quite convincingly too.  Got myself an 'S'
Rank.  Not sure how I did it exactly, but I totally wiped out the enemy
tanks pretty early on - the enemy even began to merge damaged units
together, which helped me, because it meant less things to shoot at.

Thnaks.  And if you find the talking intro's boring after you have read them
enough, press start and you can skip it.

Start works on everything.  Also on the intro animations to the
levels, and all dialogue.  I am in the habit to redo some missions,
because I was not content with my score.  So this is a pretty
important key for me.  Curious, that the manual does not mention it.

That's useful to know - thanks Arnulf. I got into the habit of saving
after the introduction so I could restart a mission without seeing the
opening spiel.
