on the gb player? Thanks.

There are two jacks on the GBA: Headphones/AC adaptor, and link cables. The
one on the player must be the link cable, so you can link with a GBA.

well you can use the gba as a controller for the gb player by simply using
the gc-to-gba link cable. As for the jack on the gb player itself, it's the
same one that is on top of the gba (old one anyway) and it even has those
two slots on both sides, so that whatever it is can lock in place; the
multilink cable doesn't need those two locking things, so it has to be for
something else--maybe some future add-on.

It's so you can link the GBP with another GBA. The slots are incase there
are certain cables/accessories that require the plugs.

Same thing. It's so that you can connect a Game Boy Player-equipped
GameCube to up to three GBAs using link cables, or an e-Reader to play e-
Card games. Remember, the Game Boy Player uses actual GBA hardware, so
except for running its display through the GameCube, it's functionally
equivalent to a GBA or SP.

Here's hoping that it works with the upcoming wireless link adapter (it
should, if it's designed to work with the GBA or SP).

Actually it's just a link port on the GBA, it's not specifically GC-GBA.
It's used for GBC link cables (for using GBC link-compatible games) and for
GBA link cables for the multiplayer in any multiplay GBA game, like Sonic
Advance. A GB Player can be used for multiplay games just the same as a GBA
can, so the link port on the GB Player serves exactly the same purposes as
it does on a GBA. (Minus the GC-GBA link since that would be pointless)

Currently the two notches are to support the weight of the E-Reader
when it is used with the gameboy player
