Is it just me or does there seem to be a very high percentage of SP's with
either dust trapped between the LCD screen and protective screen or SP LCD's
with dead pixels?
My two friends that have SP's both have dust trapped inside. I returned an
SP because of a speck of dust that illuminated with the backlight only to
have the replacement SP have even worse problems - there was a section of
the screen that had at least six pixels blocked by debris or perhaps even
dead. I took the second one straight back and decided just to go back to
the first SP I had returned. (I figured one speck wasn't TOO BAD, plus the
first one I had was more vibrant than the second, the light also illuminated
the entire screen evenly. Also, they didn't have any more black ones and I
wanted to stay with a black SP.)
So, now I am back with my original SP that has a speck. No big deal. I
have learned to live with it. Still, I can't understand why Nintendo would
make a very awesome portable game device and not take the QC measures to
ensure that the screen is void of distracting debris. Having to use an
adapter for headphones isn't a big deal, but having so many SP's with dust
on the inside screen is inexcusable.
Other than that, I think the AdvanceSP is awesome! In a relative short
period, I have purchased ten games for it since I found myself using it more
than I thought I would. Here is a list of the games I have purchased and my
thoughts:
1. Sonic Advance 2 (Its Sonic, how could you NOT like it? I wonder if Sonic
Advance 1 is worth pursuing?)
2. Madden NFL 2004 (Definetly streamed down and falls short, but what other
GBA football game is there?)
3. All Star Baseball 2004 (Excellent! Of course I haven't tried Baseball
Advance yet though.)
4. Advance Wars (Not just hype, really IS excellent! After I get this down,
will get Advance Wars 2!)
5. Golden Sun (Same as #4! I will wait until finishing before getting
Golden Sun 2.)
6. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (Just got this and started. So far, pretty
enjoyable.)
7. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 (Haven't played it too much, but pretty good.)
8. Final Round Golf 2002 (No portable isn't complete without golf game.
Here is my token.)
9. F-14 Tomcat (Simple and lot of repetition. Don't play it too much, but
decent for $14.)
10. Medal of Honor: Underground (Ack! Graphics horrible. Am I using a
TRS-80 again?)
I also picked up an Action Replay for the GBA. Cartridge is bulky and
changes weight feel of GBA, but works great. I mainly use it with Sonic.
Just me or does Sonic Advance 2 seem a lot harder than previous Sonics? I
don't recall the Sonic Adventures for the Dreamcast being this difficult.)

Hi !
I really don't understand Nintendo. Why aren't they able to make better
displays ? For a handheld it is the most important thing. Good graphics
can't be seen on bad displays.
I have a GBA (no SP) with an installed afterburner which was installed by a
shop. There are no dead pixels and really no dust trapped in there. How can
the SP have these problems - the backlight is not a third-party one.
Greetings

Who knows. My assumption is that somewhere along production something was
overlooked that allow dust to gather on the screen before it was sealed
inside the top half of the GBAsp. My assumption also leads me to believe
that Nintendo didn't realize this until after the fact -- when a large
number of SP's started being returned.
All is all, the SP is really awesome though. I really do enjoy it. I read
somewhere that the black SP's (one I have) have an LCD from a different
manufacturer than the other colors. The black SP's LCD is supposed to be a
slight better quality than the others. This wasn't my reason for selecting
a conservative black SP as I didn't read this until after purchasing one.
Whether there is any truth to this I have yet to find out.
I'm looking forward to seeing what the screen on the N-Gage looks like.
From what I read, its very vibrant and sharp in almost any lighting
condition. I won't be purchasing one though. $500 for a game portable that
you have to take the back off and remove the battery every time you want to
play a different game?! Plus, who in their right mind is going to hold the
N-Gage up to their head for use as a cell phone -- you'd look like a
complete doofus. Some of N-Gage features sound like they are really cool,
but who did Nokia piss off to have the most horrible layout possible?

my gbasp had a dead pixel in the corner, but I took it back and the
replacement had none. I'm glad I did, because that sort of thing can
ruin the joy of such an expensive toy. That said, I don't play games on
it very often now. Still, if you have ANY dead pixels, take the thing
back! It's defective, and you deserve a replacement. nintendo would
prefer you to put up with it, and after you drop it - you'll be stuck
with a few anyway, take the gba back until you get one without a single
flaw which you can see. It's not being picky, it's getting what you are
paying for (and meant to have).
would you accept a plasma screen with dead pixels?

Speaking of dust, it seems to collect on the screen. Its very hard to keep
it dust and lint free. Any suggestions?

I use a little case from Madcats. It has a zipper on it. It feels likes hard
cloth. It cost 5.99.
