It's pretty sh.t. You navigate the oversized web pages (still not that
easy to read) by holding down the b trigger and pointing to arrows on
the sides of the screen. Why they couldn'thave used the amazing
grab/hold technique the wii uses everywhere else is beyond me.
It won't show porn of any kind - it reverts to the title screen after a
few seconds of flesh with no explanation making you think something is
wrong. It also halts youtube movies at about half way and acts glitchy.
No flash support either.
The favoritres list is populated like the wii menu (big TV screens) so
if you have a lot of favorites it wil be a pain to navigate. This also
loads slowly which is strange.
It would work quite nicely if they fixed all the above. It's speed is
fine with a good connection and the typing isn't all that bothersome. On
the front page it tells you that the funcionality is limited so maybe it
will improve. No wonder this is free, if you'd payed for it you'd be pissed.

I wasn't expecting much, but that's interesting about the porn. You
think they would use the PICS tag or something to block it, if they
really wanted to. Of course, not every site uses them. Wonder if it's
some sort of image recognition software. Could be a beta crash of some
kind, too.
Should be interesting to... errr... "research".

Actually you can access porn (at least through google).

This is a good thing... and the reason I suspect it has taken Nintendo
this long to release the Opera browser. I would suspect as new Opera
releases come available, adult content blocking is going to be a big
area of R&D for Opera in order to make Nintendo happy.

if this is true, I knew Nintendo would not allow or want people to be
able to surf porn or so called "filth" on their game console--because
it would tarnish their image. that said, it's impossible for Nintendo
or Opera to stop people from reading adult newsgroups or certain
webpages, even if their able to block some of the porn. I'm actually
still surprised Nintendo is allowing a web browser on its console (and
DS also) at all. you can surf over to Playstation or Xbox websites,
you could buy products that compete with Nintendo online with the Wii
if you wanted to. you could post bad things about Nintendo with the
Wii if you choose to, etc.

thanks for the impressions. well I have it now, got it at exactly 3:00
am eastern time.
there are some shitty things about it and some good things about it.
text is all blurry unless you zoom in. this isnt the fault of the Wii
or even the browser, and not even the low-resolution of most TVs, but
probably the high dot-pitch of the pixels. when i have my PC hooked up
to the TV, small text looks about as unreadable. zooming in on Wii
helps.
Flash DOES work but not all Flash, not things that use the latest
Flash. like you, i was only able to watch maybe half a minute or less
of YouTube videos, and now YouTube will not play at all, but others are
saying YouTube works off & on, and one person said he could download
the video and it worked fine. Google Video works better. when the
streaming stops, you just move the slider a little until it starts
streaming again. DailyMotion videos seem to work ok, if slowly.
Websites load pretty fast. it sucks not having a keyboard. typing on
the on-screen keyboard better than other implementations on other
keyboard-less browsers, but nothing will replace a real keyboard, which
i hope they release soon. And I hope the final version has JAVA, but
somehow I doubt it because that would allow emulation of games to be
played. the interface is simple but sometimes a pain, and not very
well configured. although it works. I too wish you could grab and pull
pages around instead of slowly scrolling which is bullshit.
there ARE far worse console browsers out there: i.e. anything from
Planetweb on Dreamcast is utter sh.t.
in some ways, the Opera Wii browser is better than the standard PS3
browser, but the standard PS3 browser is better in other ways.
however, I'd imagine if you used Firefox or Opera on PS3 Linux, it
would blow away Wii Opera.
still, it's a big step for Nintendo to actually allow limited internet
access through its console. I hope the Final version is a big
improvement, and I hope development of Wii browser does not end with
the Final either. I would pay $5-$10 for a better featured browser.

I agree, it sucks. I haven't surfed any porn but basic you tube clips are
just as you describe. At the Nintendo forums someone said if you watch the
same clip at Google it will play. The navigation and text size is all
wrong. I hope there are improvements.
