AirRaid Mach 2.5 - 12 Dec 2006 09:40 GMT not really 'new' news, as "Zelda Revolution' has been mentioned before, well over a year ago, but here's the latest on the next main Zelda game.

Phantom Hourglass Delayed, New Zelda For Wii?
Game Informer claims a new Zelda for Wii is a year into development, while Phantom Hourglass is delayed.
According to the latest issue of Game Informer magazine (yes, there are still some print magazines in business), The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the DS has been delayed until October, 2007. Previously slated for release in Q4, 2006, the game has obviously had a significant setback. Nintendo is yet to announce any reasons for the delay, but we'll keep you posted.
The second tidbit of info to come from Game Informer is that apparently Nintendo have been working on a new Zelda game for the Wii for a year now. We're assuming this will be the Wii-exclusive Zelda everyone has been waiting for. While Twilight Princess is a great game, it was originally designed for the GameCube, and in some areas it shows (no voices, simplistic Wiimote controls, etc).
If true, this means we may see a new Zelda game for the Wii sooner than we had originally thought. Of course, at this stage it is only a rumor. We'll let you know as soon as we can get confirmation from Nintendo.

AirRaid - 12 Dec 2006 23:20 GMT I expect Zelda: Phantom Hourglass in Oct-Nov 2007.
as for Zelda Wii, the soonest might be late 2008, and I think late 2008 just got a bit more possible given that the game has been in development ~1 year if Game Informer is to be believed. previously, I wasn't expecting a Wii Zelda until late 2009, and while that's still VERY possible given how Nintendo always delays games, I think Wii Zelda coming out 2 years after Twilight Princess is a good possibility. but I'm not counting on a 2008 release, because Zelda on Wii will apparently ditch the formula of all the 3D Zelda games that started with Ocarina.

What do you mean by, "Wii will apparently ditch the formula of all the 3D Zelda games that started with Ocarina."
I've heard that that Zelda will forever be a different game on Wii, I just took that to mean the controllers will make it like a different game. Is there more to it than that?

Is > there more to it than that? all that is known, is what Nintendo said. Twilight Princess is the last Zelda *AS WE KNOW IT*, which can mean different things. I suspect the way it plays will be very different, meaning that it makes full use of the Wii's 3D sensory control scheme. I'll bet the game will be more gesture based, and have 1 to 1 sword/shield combat if not almost 1:1. I have no idea what the graphics or artwork will be like. they might go back to cel-shading but without the baby-art of Wind Waker. or they might keep it similar to TP. or it might have a totally new visual style. all we know for sure is, the next Zelda will be very different from the last four 3D Zelda's, probably most of all in gameplay. I didn't mean to confuse you.

I think the only evidence that Zelda will be different is that statement ''last Zelda as we know it". No-one quite knows what that will mean, except obviously the controller is different.

I might be mistaken, but aren't they using some cell shading in TP? If you notice the animation of the monsters dying/blowing up/etc., it looks cell shaded to me.

Am I the only one who likes celshading in wind waker? :(

Agree with this post exactly. Doesn't help that it took me forever and a day to work out if you shoot the windy dude, he helps you warp.

>> Am I the only one who likes celshading in wind waker? :( Not at all. Like a lot of people, I was horrified by the thought of a "cartoonish" looking Zelda game. Then I played it. I was actually disappointed that Nintendo went back to a more realistic look for TP, since I thought the cell shading was a good fit for the tone of the games.

Am I the only one who likes celshading in wind waker? :( I love the cell shading but also didn't totally enjoy sailing. Finding and beating the creature to help with warping is essential to enjoying this game. Other than that, I thought the game was fabulous, gameplay, islands to explore, art work, all very well done.

Perfect game, I even loved the sailing!

The graphics in Windwaker were fine. It was the sailing that was an issue. However, that may not have been a problem if the game was released with a decent amount of dungeons. I think the game needed to be 25-50% longer than it was. Or had larger islands for one that still took a while to get from one end to the other.
But I liked the game anyways. :)

I agree except the sailing gets to me a bit. But really, it is a beautiful game. I've seen so many lately say how much they like WW, not many would admit to it when the game first came out.

Twilight Princess uses a heavily, heavily modified Wind Waker engine. there are clearly elements of cel shading used for certain effects like enemies blowing up. And Midna almost appears cel-shaded as well. If you look back to the E3 2005 trailer, http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=5879&type=mov&pl=game http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=5879&type=wmv&pl=game where the Twilight Realm environments was closer to black & white, looking very dreary (but cool) the characters were colored/shaded in such a way that cel shading was even more apparent than it is in the final game where the Twilight Realm is more colorful and blurred.

Please can everyone stop talking about voices in Zelda. I never ever want voices in Zelda. I never want to hear link speak. Else it will lose its 1st person type adventure when someone else is doing lots of talking. I don't want voices in other characters either, I mean who wants to hear American voices in Zelda like in the cartoon series: "Zeldaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa". No offence America!

I've got to agree with this, Mario lost it's sheen for me when he started whooping and hollering. That's not to say that I don't like the Mario games, just that I liked him the way he was back in the SNES days...

No offence America! They might start doing voiceovers in Zelda, and I suppose if they do them really, really well it won't be too bad. I don't want Link speaking, though. No matter what they try, no matter how they make his voice sound, it will probably be disappointing for most fans.
Maybe they should do it like a Mel Gibson movie and have them all speak Hyrulian with subtitles. :)

No offence America! Oh god, that brought back memories of the commercial for the original game... with that freaky guy that I assume was supposed to be Link running all over the place... I think that's what initially turned me OFF of Zelda, until I heard my friends discuss it like it was some sort of TV show. That got my interest then.
'P - P - Peahats!' 'Leeeeeevers... eeeeeeeeeeeee!' 'Zelda? Zelda! Zelda?'
*shudder*
