this article was pulled, edited, then put back online without mention
of the Gamecube handheld using a downclocked IBM 'Broadway' PowerPC
CPU.

if it was just a rumor with no credibility, why was it so quickly
pulled ?

someone playing mind games, or a real slip ?

Because someone at ign realized that posting completely unsubstantiated
rumors makes them look like bozos?  Well, that doesn't normally stop
them, but maybe the cleaning lady was in charge that day.

I saw that story on another website as well - it may have been
gamesindustry.biz, eurogamer.net or spong.com - I never go on IGN -
dont like it - they're the ones i tend to go on - but then when i went
back to show my partner I couldnt find it anywhere.
I tend to take these things with a pinch of salt anyway, but it is
interesting that it was pulled from more than one site.

I guess we will just have to wait and see :)
