I just got a DS Lite. On the bootup screen there's a little light bulb
where I can change the brightness. Is there a button combonation I can
push in game to change the brightness?

Only if the game were written to allow it.

What I do know is that Mario 64 DS supports such a thing.. you could
actually choose whether you would like the backlight to be on or off during
the screen where you choose the options..

I wonder how that would act with a Lite...
