That's what Nintendo says.
Actually, there have been limited cases of some stores, particularly a
few Wal-Marts and Targets, breaking the street date and selling DS Lites
as early as this past Thursday:

so you may wish to check your local Wal-Mart or Target to see if they've
slipped a few under the radar, so to speak. ;)

Whoa! I already put half the money down at Gamestop.
My wife's going to go in today, bat her eyes, and see if they have
any. :-)

No deal here. Noone is selling them locally, so Gamestop can't be
swayed. Even by my wife's hot butt. :-)

i got one today in australia, i think they were released on the 1st
here.. took me by surprise as i thought they'd do the US before us, but
it's sitting here and it kicks a.s over the original, which my flatmate
has.. compared the two and the original has screens that are so dim it's
not even worth playing.. the DS makes the 17" LCD that i'm looking at
now look dim!
australia only got white, wouldn't have been my choice of colour but
when there's only one option what can you do.. i guess it will match the
wii that i plan on getting

That's how I felt when I got the new SP over my old one. In fact, I
gave my old one to Gamespot for $35 towards the DS Lite.
I've bought 4 DS games, but don't have an original DS...just waiting
for the Lite.
