"Its web browsing software will be provided courtesy of Opera, enabling
users to surf the 'net using both screens via the Nintendo Wi-fi
Connection service. The software will be sold on a DS cart for 3,800
Yen, roughly equating to 19 GBP. Interestingly though, and not
mentioned in the initial press release, it seems that a DS RAM
expansion card will also be bundled into the pack, which slots into the
GBA port for a more pleasurable browsing experience."

I read discussions since the DS came out about a possible RAM expansion
using the DS slot but it was always dismissed (by arm chair experts, though)
as the GBA slot is too slow to act as RAM. No idea if it's true but that's
what is always claimed.

for games it may be, but not for general web-browsing which i imagine
is far less demanding on the memory bandwidth.

Yes. The ram pack will be used for storage not workspace. Think hard
drive versus RAM in PC terms.

Why is it too slow?  Because the address bus and data bus share the same
pins sequentially and not in parallel?
