Storing away some Game Boy Advance SP's - What should I do with the batteries?

I have 3 Game Boy Advance SP's: Cobalt, Flame, and the Limited Edition
Classic NES style.

I am only going to use 1 of them and put the other 2 away in storage,
especially the Limited Edition Classic NES style one!  I have already
charged and fully discharge the batteries of all 3 of them as I had to make
sure there were no dead/stuck pixels.

The manual says not to leave the batteries drained.

So what should I do with the batteries?

They are all currently drained.  Should I charge them all up and store them
away?  But then wouldn't they just lose their charge over time while in
storage, anyway? Would I then have to charge them up every year or so?
Kinda seems like a waste of a battery.

Can  just store them away with discharged batteries?  What are the
consequences of doing so?

What should I do?

Anyone here an expert on Lithium Ion batteries?

Any and all advice and information would be greatly appreciated.

I've been just leaving my GBA SP charged. It doesn't seem to lose it's
charge at all while being stored. I left it for several months without
using it, and it was still fully charged when I turned it on. Really
good feature that.
