My son is planning to buy himself a Nintendo DS with all the gift cards, and
tip money he got from delivering newspapers.  He wants the MK bundle. I
don't know all that much about the DS, and I'm looking for a good place to
start learning.  I'd like to know what games are available, and which ones
use the built in networking.  Also how the DS (if it can) uses the wireless
network we have at home.

Thanks,

drax

Great user forums at www.gamefaqs.com. Lots of information of the games out
and
opinions from actual users as opposed to magazine critics.

gamefaqs is a great resource, I should have thought to look there.

almost all the games for the DS use the built in networking (from one
DS to others) only 3 games currently use WI-FI (your home network)
(Mariokart DS, Animal Crossing, and Tony Hawk but there ar emore on
the way).   There are tons of great games for the DS.   Are you the
same drax from the Judas Priest newsgroup?   I dont think your son can
go wrong with the DS it's a lot of fun (even for an old guy like me).
Well worth his hard earned money.   Feel free to ask any more detailed
questions.

latest DS news can be found here:

Nintendo has a good website with lots of DS info you can start from
the link below:

Some of the Ds's best games:

Castlevania DS
Kirby Canvas Curse
Warioware touched
mario and Luigi ;partners in time
Mario kart DS
Nanostray

of course depending on what your son likes YMMV

I am that drax from the JP newsgroup (are there others?).  Thanks for the
info.  He couldn't get the Mario Kart Bundle, so he just got a blue one and
then bought Megaman Battle network (because his friend has it too).  I don't
know where, but I thought I had read somewhere that only one person needed
to have a game for both to play.  Did I just dream that up or is it true
(only for some games perhaps?).

For some games. Sometimes, like Mario Kart, there are fewer
possibilities, if someone doesn't have the game. Still it's great to be
able to play together with only one game to share. And your son should
get Mario Kart. It's really great fun.

Obviously if he plays over the WI-FI network he will need his own
copy of the game, but for regular network play (locally) it depends
upon the game.
